First off, Jonathan has been a very unique character who has brought something different to the show. I don't think he was a great player by any means, but he wasn't a fool. My impression is that he's just naturally hard to trust because he tries to play very rationally. He was without a doubt a perfect casting choice, but what you've just said is so border-line BB Hellataz that I'm starting to get even more skeeved out by this Cappy--I mean Jonathan obsession.
