I don't get to check the spoiler boards as much as I would like to, and there seem to be so many threads about the same topic! This is GREAT! Well organized...just the way I like it

Notice, this is the MESS Hall
|
Everyone's insight and carefully considered reasoning is welcome here as we undertake our roles as 'spoliers'. However, when you enter the MESS Hall, wipe your feet and leave your opinions of other boards at the door. There are plenty of other places for such discussion. Let's keep this a haven from such distractions, a place where anyone who is moderately serious about our little pasttime can come and feel welcome to contribute, regardless of their outside affiliations. Basically, I'm trying to say that matters involving other boards don't really concern the work at hand, which is beating Mark Burnett, not another board (and to have a little fun in the process).
That being said, I invite those from other boards to drop by, and I invite MESSers to drop by other boards. Just remember these simple rules stated by Beef: Everyone is respectful here. And everyone has fun. These are the primary rules. |

I understand that we're new. I understand that it's the weekend. Why don't we have more input? We all know who we should be actively soliciting to come over here. Am I out of line saying this? I think we need to invite people who seem interested in spoiling.
I also understand that I have a lot of nerve calling myself "we". I want to be a part of "MESS" badly. I may not have much to offer this year, but now that I get it..I'll be awesome next year! Mark my words! And I don't mean "Mark" Burnett. LOL! Stephie |

The truth of the matter, wackadoodle1, is you are a part of MESS, for as long as you choose to be. You walked through the door, put on your thinking cap, and elected to contribute. As for inviting others, if you have someone you'd like to invite, feel free. A variety of intelligent voices can only help us, no matter where else they participate in the business of spoiling. To paraphrase Beef in his opening post of this thread, everyone is welcome so long as they play nice and have fun.

Well OkieLoki,
Here's the truth..I'm a little worried about the people I've been "running around" with on other boards, I don't know them very well. BeefJerky was over there tonight and I think he'll probably want to steer clear of some of it. I love MESS. I think that MESS is the best shot for a decent F2 spoiler. My conspiracy theories are posted elsewhere. Anyway, I hope I can add something to all of the debate. I read up to volume 58 of Nancy Drew by the time I was 10. I want to believe I can solve a mystery or two! If I can't, I want to see how y'all do it! That's why I sign all MESS posts with my real name... Stephie |

Beef et al, we need a new thread to sift through the last season looking for all the things we missed. We have to perfect the art of spoiling.
And, of course we havfe to beat the Elipsiiians! |
|||

The real goal... | ||
|
..., to me at least, is to beat MB -- and it doesn't matter who does it. More power to MESS, and to a great group of both moderators and posters.
sunsawed, I agree that we learned a lot about MB's editing tricks this year; he edited S2 very differently from S1 by hiding the Colby/Tina "final two" alliance all year. This time, we were lucky because (1) Mitchell talked about it, and (2) Ultimate Survivor posted Mitchell's comments. But how does one capture those tricks in a thread for future reference? |

Score: MB 2 - Rest of World 0

Yeah, the strategy we were shown was very selective. Some votes were signaled and deliberated (Case in point Colby's "Strategy vs. Philanthropy.") Others were glazed over. (Amber ouster, was this a Tina betrayal of Colby?) We got to see the actual Jerri debate, which was really good.
I think MB missed out on making the story more dramatic. If we KNEW that Tina and Colby had this alliance all along then Colby's decision at F3 TC would be all the more dramatic. Betray your ally or try to win "honestly." Instead, it just seemed foolish and mysterious. I thought, yes, Tina and Colby were allied from practically day one, but they had a "Gentleman's agreement" that the winner of the F3 challenge would take Keith to avoid the possibilty of pitting the two in a trash-talking contest and having betrayal take place there. (I still think Tina would take Keith.) Also, they wouldn't have to betray Keith, who knew he was going to lose ever since Jerri left, accepted that and had worked hard for 26 days putting up win every form of hell imaginable to help the both of them win. I agree with Jerri. Getting Colby to choose her was the biggest master stroke of the game. Note to MB: show the game as it is. There's no use in keeping any secrets about it or spinning it. The natural human drama is far more interesting than anything you craft. MB's downfall is his incessant need to keep his finger in the pie. To spin. To tilt challenge-wise and by manipulating the contestants. That's why Elipsiiis was so sucessful. Try as he might to hide and spin the events that go on, he can't hide HIS OWN need to SPOIL HIMSELF and to try to manipulate events for his own advantage. (More drama and surprises, higher ratings. Build up "good guys" and "bad guys." Think about story arcs.) To predict the outcome, all you really need to do is understand MB's desires. If he would let events proceed naturally and record them without spin or bias, the outcome would probably be LESS predictable. I'm surprised we got a real genuine spoiler this year, the Ranch picture, and everybody attacked it. It makes you wonder if the show is spoilable at all. Even if we got ahold of a photo of Tina taking a bath in 50s and 100s and riding around in a Rolls with Tennessee license plate "I WON 1M," we'd be skeptical. My guess is that MB releaseed the Ranch photo just to see how we'd react to real spoiler information. What difference would it make? And the answer is none. We take all evidence with a grain of salt. The most we (read Elipsiiis) can do is spoil single episodes. And you have to tune in to make sure they are right. The point of spoiling is to keep people from tuning in. Instead we are forced to go over tapes and vid-caps and transcripts just so we can watch the next episode to see if we were right. |

VHawk, your question ("how CAN I help?") can be better answered by you than us. Use your personal talents. Watch, listen, observe, research... If you find something out, let us know. I appreciate your enthusiasm... If everyone is equally vigilant, we should be able to get a good jump on the upcoming season.
Keep your eyes peeled, your ears open, and your brain in gear. |

Been lurking at Survivor Sucks since just before S2 merge. I love the MESS concept. Hope I can contribute to the S3 discussion in a meaningful way as things unfold.
Here's some thoughts that are beginning to rattle around my brain: + Jeff Probst has already begun planting thoughts that finding water is going to be the toughest issue for the castaways. Hmmmm.... + Shooting will take place in July/August, the dry season in Kenya. + How will the castways sleep with hungry, thirsty, very toothy nocturnal critters wandering about? |

BeefJerky,
Great idea on organizing focused topics to work in! I'd mentioned earlier in a thread on spoilers about changing things on the board, and said that it should be left up to the Admin's and Mods to do what they think is best... And look what you guy's did! S3 is going to be a blast and I'm looking forward to some great spoiling! Spoil On!! CC PS: Sign me up as a MESS Member, Puhleeeeze? Uhhhhh, Beef, we have a problem here...

Mr. Jerky:
I seem to have done a rather dumb thing - I changed (reapplied) my account to 'global' instead of local, and now *sniff* my wunnerful MESS badge has disappeared. Is there any chance you could give it back to me? I rpomise I'll try to do better than my woefully inadequate last episode spolierage. Really. I'm sorry. (You've always been my favorite Admin, regardless of what I said to any of the others...) Thanks! ZD (new sig line too...) You may say I'm a dreamer - but I'm not the only one
