"We've never had a top twelve like we're going to have this season," admitted Paula. Added Randy, "I think it's the best we've ever had." But will "Idol" produce another Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood this year? "I'm going on record: There's more than one," Paula said. Added Simon, "Yeah, Kelly, Carrie - all of them. I mean, very, very strong." With the competition even better, and the stakes higher, one thing remains the same: Paula and Simon's disdain for each other. The dynamic between the two is "atrocious as usual," admitted Simon. "You know, Paula sees right, I see left. I mean, that's what it's like." Any arguments so far? "Yeah, one or two," Simon revealed. Added Randy, "We fight a little bit…everyone gets frustrated. I understand. I get it."

In reality there probably is a large amount of great contestants compared to other seasons. But I doubt the entire Top 12 is going to be amazing. Theres ALWAYS one or two I can't stand.

If I was going to rank him among my favorite 5 AI male vocalists, it would look like this: 1. Elliott Yamin 2. Clay Aiken 3. Ruben Studdard 4. Jermaine Paul 5. The writers' strike is probably going to drag on for quite some time, and that means there won't be any new scripted shows airing in the new year. All eyes will be on American Idol. If they can put together a great group of contestants, they can make viewers forget the fiasco of season 6 and re-establish AI as the #1 show on TV (besides The Apprentice, of course).

(They were using words like "interesting" and "compelling" and hyping up their personalities) Which should have been an indicator of how craptastic it would end up being.

But I don't think I've heard Simon rave this much before. Usually, he'll say some good things and have negative comments as well, but this year even he seems happy about the talent. But after enduring last year, I'm sure everything would seem amazing in this year's round of auditions. Hopefully allowing them to play instruments in the auditions brought out a new crop of talent.

My guess is we'll get 10 good singers and maybe 2 will make it into the Top 12 and the other 10 are all 17.

Anything the three of them would rave about would be the exact opposite of what I would be interested in.
