John was cocky, but he had a reason to be since he thought the old Rotu would stick together and pagong the Maraamu. But his alliance made the stupid move of obviously showing the boot order with the coconut chop challenge. |

Royry "Grown-ass" Freeman (Vanuatu) 
Vanuatu horribly lacked interesting male characters and Rory was pretty much the only one, allowing him to make this list. For the first time since Survivor began, we finally had a black male who went against all the stereotypes previous black men before him created. He could swim, he worked hard, hell, even nagged others to pull their weight and he wasn't a religious nutjob. Rory started off with a pretty negative to neutral edit, but it's when the tribe shuffle occured that he began to shine. At that point, Ami and her crew were starting to look so evil, that in an odd twist, viewers felt bad for a man who was being opressed by women. In a situation where most men would've been intimidated, Rory never backed down and was proud to show those women he had the Y chromosone. Of course, once he was booted, that was it for the men and the women completely took over the season. .....even though a guy won. Kelly Goldsmith (Africa) 
Kelly was one of very few young woman on the show that you just couldn't lump in any category. She was wasn't a sweetheart, not a psychobitch either and not a mute who rode someone's coattails. This little brat had a decent amount of snarky confessionals, though unfortunately, very little gameplay to back it up. But she deserves HUGE credit for realizing that Lex was a Twatwaffle before anyone of us made that conclusion. 5 seasons later, her prophecy was definitely fulfilled. In fact, you might argue that she's the one who set off the Twatwaffle avalanche. Lex was actually somewhat likable until he started poiting fingers at Kelly and then we all know what happened next. Her ouster has angered many fans of this show. She was robbed of a chance to win a million, viewers were robbed of someone who added spunk to an otherwise underwhelming season. |

Wait, you like Kelly? I never knew that. This list has been pretty consistently awesome so far, but that just made it even better (even if she's 15 spots
too low). Tammy was a cool, underrated surprise, and even though I couldn't really justify putting Misty in the top 20, she's easily one of my favorite
early boots ever.
Nice work so far. I don't know how many of these people would actually make my top 20 males and females but these are some pretty awesome selections. I still stand by my Terry prediction, although if he doesn't show up next then I was off. Oh well. Keep it up. |

I always considered Joel to be one of the most underrated players ever in this game. Just like Hatch, he knew what this game was all about: numbers! I always felt bad for him that he got stuck in a tribe of feminist women who couldn't get that through their thick skulls. And despite the fact that Gervase flat out said that women were like cows, he's the one who paid for it, go figure. I know he was a bit overbearing, but seing that it's people like J-Lew he was overbearing to, I tend to think he was justified in it. So yes, it's mostly sympathy that allows Joel in my list. He knew what this game was about, he got screwed over by stupid players, then Hatch carried out the exact same strategy Joel was going to use and he got all the credit while Joel is remembered mainly as a chauvinist. Harsh! Darrah Johnson (Pearl Islands) 
Yes, I know what you're thinking: "How can you include a mute in your list??", except Danny of course who's probably thinking: "Mother fucker!! She's way too low!!!". Yes, I'm fully aware the girl didn't say or do much on her season, but I've always had a soft spot for Darrah (and a hard one). I don't care that she wasn't the life of the party, the girl was tough as nails (to quote Andrew). She never complained and probably could've lasted another 2 months out there without ever complaining. That's how a woman wins her way into my heart. She was cute as a button, loved her incomprehensible southern accent and she knew how to use a gun!! How frickin' hot is that?? It's like a real life Jill Valentine. She was probably the only chick in double digit weight that was constantly considered a physical threat. And she looked hot in every challenge. I remember people back then saying she was the reincarnation of Jenna Morasca which was just incredibly insulting to me. Darrah is a about a million times the hot chick that Jenna wishes she could be. Hot to me doesn't mean being popular and winning beauty pageants. (Insert "But Jenna is a million times richer than she is" joke here) |

pshaw stacey was the first person to come up with the alliance strategy but sue hated women so it didn't work out
if joel's on your list for that reason i expect to see her soon! also darrah was a target before the merge for being lazy so i don't think she could survive forever. she just talked about fahrwood, cookies, and breast implants
