In Hollywood, the type they've been casting ARE the "better" women.

Another problem is that they have not been casting older women with a lot of game.
If you want to look at pre-All Stars. You had a lot of the mom-type characters who had huge game strategically. We had Tina, Teresa, Kathy, Vee, Helen, Deena, Lill. Even some of them that didn't make it to the merge, had some strategical minds such as Jeanne and Trish. The problem is that now there is very few older ladies with game after Vanuatu. The only ones I can think of is Cirie/Tracy...some extent Crystal/Susie I mean let us look at the older women after Vanuatu. Caryn-complete joke Margaret-had some strategy but ended up isolating herself after the switch. Tina-no game. Cristina-no game. Sylvia-... Cassandra-she had some strategy, but was overshadowed. Leslie-no game. Taj-strong game presence, but dissipated after the merge. Betsy and Shambo-none. |

Being dragged along for the maority of the game =/= a huge strategic game, in my eyes.

Survivor's primary casting policy seems to be "cast lots of eye candy" -- male and female. Male eye candy tends to be muscular, athletic men; female eye candy tends to be hairstylists and pharmaceutical reps. So the predictable early boots every season include getting rid of the female eye candy, since they aren't considered valuable in the challenges. If you vote off 25-35% of the women in the first few weeks, it shouldn't be a surprise that there are fewer female winners than male winners.Fair enough as a critique of S10 and S11 casting - Ashlee, Kim M, Morgan, and Brianna didn't fair well. But the cute girls have held their own from S12 on. We've seen plenty of older people and young men get medivacked or asked to be voted off, but no young women. Young women are generally more mature than young guys (where is the female equivalent to S19 Ben or S5 Robb Z). Beauty tends to correlate with athleticism. Danielle, Parvati, Candice, Amanda, etc are among the strongest girls of their seasons. Natalie continues that trend, though she may look like Barbie. Call her boring if you want, but girls with bigger personalities would be more likely to fall victim to Evil Russell. If Marisa and Betsy were serious about girlpower or getting assholes out, they wouldn\t have targeted Ashley first, which lead the blondes to seek safety in Russell. |

Beauty tends to correlate with athleticism.I'd consider the likes of Alicia, Stephanie, Kelly W., Cindy, to be athletic. You are somewhat right about Candice, Danielle, and Amanda, but certainly not Parvati or Natalie. Truth is you now have it known that Survivor takes a major toll on the body. Women in their 20's who hope to have children soon probably don't want to risk it. Women in their 30's are mostly involved with raising a family. Finally, women past 45 are unfortunately seen as weak. Therefore, the pool of women who are even available or interested in going on the show is minimal. And sadly, from the women who are on the show, assertive types are seen as bitches. Assertive men are seen as, well, men. Horrible double standard. |

Are there really more male applicants than women? It's not really fair blaming the lack of competitive females to them raising a family and building their
career, since the same thing can be said about men. There are definitely fans of the show who don't want to stop their lives, but I'm sure there are
many great females who are turned down in favor of young, pretty models.

Being a jerk knows no gender boundaries. |

Beauty tends to correlate with athleticism.Should be an obvious point if you un understand the concept of correlation. Most people fit a fit body more attractive than a flabby one. Younger women tend to be more athletic. People who care about sculpting and toming their bodies usually are into beautifing in other ways. |

If we were looking at a cross-section of society that might be true -- physically fit women are generally considered more attractive than chubby women. But
we're talking about a TV show. None of the young women I can recall from any season of Survivor were flabby.
Some athletic women are attractive; some aren't. Just looking at this season, none of the women I think of as the attractive ones -- Natalie, Marissa, Ashley, Kelly, Monica -- seem particularly athletic. |

True, standards in pretty athletic females have fallen off since Danielle, Parvati, Candice, Amanda, and Jaime.
But Natalie and Marisa probably were the strongest women on Foa, and Betsy was probably doomed based on challenge performance on a losing tribe, even if she hadn\t made an enemy of Russell. Laura is a total challenge beast and about 40, but the way she\d edited, viewers probably think she'd about Monica's age. They were hoping that her and Betsy would be great characters and kick ass (Probst was talking them up preseason). But because of how the game has unfolded they are wasted, while Shambo the hag is left to be poster girl for middle-aged women. :{ |
