I am still bamboozled (and royally pissed) that Gayjay would still only have one championship if France hadn't decided to fuck around.

And Jeffy would have five, maybe six. I don't know about Tony in 2005 (too lazy and not sure where to go back and check), but Ears would never have won in 2004... as it was, he barely won that year, and he was several hundred points back before that year's Chase started.

ETA: Just checked using Yahoo search and jayski.com. Link Tony would have won the Cup by 215 points in 2005 under the non-Chase system, so he would have clinched before Homestead. GayJay started that race 32nd and crashed out, finishing 40th... if only he could have had such bad luck this year also...

Also, in 2006, GayJay still would have won the Cup, but by only 4 points over Matt Kenseth. Tony would have finished 4th, thanks to the 3-win tear he went on after being eliminated from the Chase (so he might have run some of those races differently had he been contending for the Cup).

I finally found the 2004 standings adjusted to the old points system. You are right. Jeff would have won by 47 points over Jimmie. Ears would have finished fourth.

I'll throw in an extra FUCK YOU BRIAN FRANCE just for the heck of it.

Dale Jr. says don't mess with the Chase format any more. I guess Brian France and GayJay have him collared and being their bitch but good. Ironically, under the old points system, he'd have finished 7th and would be onstage at the Waldorf in a few weeks. Instead, he gets to watch the top 10 go up there along with just about everybody else.

Oh, heck, here's the top 12 under the old system and under the new system. As I said before, the names would have been the same. Just most of the positions would have changed. This is from jayski.com, so blame any errors on him.

Shrub had a HORRIBLE few races right at the beginning of the Chase. That did him in.
