It got the most nominations at the BAFTAs (a whopping 14), and over 900 BAFTA members also vote on the Oscars. The voting system could really help Atonement edge out the other contenders, because 95% of these British people will list it as number one.

I also feel that 'There Will Be Blood' is a better film than 'No C.F.Old Farts' (which I also liked a lot). The wins are becoming more obvious: Jav. for S.Actor (old men) Day-Lewis for 'There W.B. Blood' S. Actress: shocked if it's not Cate Blanchett for her Bob Dylan role (as she won't win for Elizabeth) B.Actress: this is the '?' choice. It's a two-way race. Director: Should be Coen Brothers but??? Butterfly? Song: INTO THE WILD (the key song) Movie: I predict 'Atonement' but I hope not. the rat movie for best animated (shoe-in)

The voters will spread the wealth, as they have been inclined to do the past few years. Too many good movies this year to award the same film twice. It might get a nomination, though. Either way, at least one movie is going to get snubbed -- Juno, Into the Wild, Sweeney Todd, Atonement. There isn't room for all of them on the ballot.

Both just brilliant IMO. I loved Sweeney Todd, but realistically, not gonna happen. I STILL think The Assasination of Jesse James was WAY underrated.

I totally agree McWolcott (the woman!)... I really loved this film and felt it was snubbed. Atonement for the loss! I hope 'There Will Be Blood' wins best film. I don't think it will as it will win best actor but I think (havinig seen 'all' of the top films) it was the best. Guilty pleasures: I loved Juno and Sweeney Todd.

I don't usually go the "_____ was robbed" route, but if he loses, he will truly be robbed. Every time he is in a movie, it's like a treat for the audience. And in There Will Be Blood - wow...And I agree with the people above who said, given who he acting against, Paul Dano was pretty good. I saw him in a movie a few years ago called L.I.E. and he was so good. Few more years and movies, and the praise will come pouring in.

It'll have a hard time replacing No Country as my favorite of the year though. Even though I really wouldn't have any problem with Juno winning since its such a great movie thats really hard to dislike.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	my goal for this years awards was to watch as many of the movies that will eventually be nominated for an oscar whether it be for best film or the actors. so far i have seen Old Men, Blood, Juno and hope to watch Atonement soon but it takes a lot for me to watch those types of movies. So far I liked Juno and Blood the best. Two very different films and I'd be happy with one of those winning best picture. I don't know who else is nominated for Best Actor but DDL was very good in his role in Blood. i don't think bardem is supporting actor worthy but i also don't know who to compare him to since i don't know who is nominated in that category. Old Men was a crappy film, imho. the last rumor i read was that the oscar's would be a go no matter what. they wouldn't say what they were going to do to ensure that but they said no matter what they would still be going through with them. eta: i also saw eastern promises and viggo was excellent in that movie so DDL has competition. i think DDL will get it since he's been nominated so many times and hasn't won. right?

I've seen all the flicks and he's above anyone in this category Best Actress: the 'foreign gal' from the film I can never pronounce (my apologies) she won the G.Globe. I gather she is the best and I do think Julie Christie was very good in 'Away From Her' but from everything I've read I do believe the honour goes to Frenchy. Best Supporting Actor: seems like a shoe-in for Javier B. but, I really think this is over-rated and it should go to Casey Afflect for Jessie James...he's subtle but very good and precise with his work. Best Supporting Actress: I'd give it to Cate Blanchette.. she amazing in the Bob Dylan Film. Amy was good but I feel Cate was better. Foreign Flick: The Diving Bell and The Butterfly' it was very good. Best Director: The brothers Best Movie: I would choose 'There Will Be Blood' over No Country..but, I know N.C. has won most of the awards...I still preferred T.W.B.Blood overall. Also: I reallllllllllllly feel that Paul Dano should be nominated for S.Actor. I still have *'gushy feelings'* for Juno and Into the Wild'.... it's an emotional time of the year! and... please suck the life out of George Clooney by 'not' nominating him (like that will happen)
