No big deal, country music does not have the competition that pop music has. Aside from Taylor, who else is there? Carrie has clear sailing with every song she puts out because there is no other young country star out there that will compete for the top spot.

In pop music you have Pink, Beyonce, Xtina, Lady Haha, Britney, Miley, Ciara, Avril, Katy Perry fighting Kelly for the top spots.

I thought that the country music chart was more competitive because a singer isn't competing against just those of their own gender but also duos, groups and the opposite sex. With pop music, how well you do seems to come down to how good the producer is and how attractive the singer is since the music is geered towards tweenies and teens who like to emulate their favourite artists.

in pop an artist competes with not only other traditional pop artists but also rock, hip/hop, rap and various other genres that get played on pop radio stations. Pop = popular you moron, it's not a subsect of music like country. It encompasses every type of music that is currently played across genres, even country hence Carrie and Taylor Swift getting spins on Pop radio. and it certainly has more than just tweens and teens as fans.

But tex is correct insomuch as in country there isn't as much competition for the top spot because it's ALL country music and let's be honest, only certain artists make it to the top spot. If Carrie, Brad, Kenney or Rascal Flatts release a single, you can set your watch by the fact that it's going to #1. Whereas on pop, sometimes an artist gets #1 and sometimes they don't even reach the top 10. It's much more competitive on pop radio because it's a broader range of listeners and there is just more music to choose from. that is why on country radio a song that is #1 is receiving about the amount of spins that a song that is # 12 on pop gets. Bigger audience on pop (the #1 song has 71 million in AI while the #1 on country has 36 million) hence more competition. It's not rocket science

I read what Tex wrote to mean that Carrie doesn't have any other solo FEMALE competition fighting for the top spot besides Taylor and she's pretty much right. Taylor and Carrie are the top tier females at the moment in country radio while in pop you have all the people Tex named with current singles on radio all fighting for spins and all with different fan tastes and styles.
