Kelly, IMO, did the show the biggest favor ever by going off and proving that the show COULD in fact find a legitimate artist who is able sustain a career separate and apart from Idol. She gave that show the credibility it was lacking until her album Breakaway came out. Until then no one had proven they were viable past the expiration date of their own 15 minutes coming off the show and

judging from Carrie's slumped sales this go around, she hasn't proven that she can sustain a career without Idol either. Carrie might feel like she owes Idol her career and every bit of success but Kelly knows her success comes from her talent and that Idol was just a way to get that shown. Carrie was manufactured on Idol and was lucky idol came along.... whereas Idol was lucky Kelly came along...just ask Simon Cowell.

That's funny considering how well Carnival Ride has done with the challenges of the U.S. economy vs Kelly's effort released a few months earlier. Here it is 1 1/2 years after it's release and it is selling just slightly less than Kelly's CD that has only been out 2 months. Carrie is showing what longevity is all about.

you're seriously comparing an album released in Oct with MASSIVE promo and 4 (now almost 5) #1 hits to an album released in June in the middle of a media firestorm of bad press and word that the label thought it sucked and which only had one real single that didn't even hit the top 20 on the format it was geared towards? but of course you are and you're only talking U.S. sales not world wide sales I always have to keep that in mind

and why are you comparing Carrie's sophomore album to Kelly's 4th album? The POINT, which as usual, is lost on the dimwit, is that sophomore album to sophomore album, of which now Kelly, Clay, Bo, Carrie, Ruben, Taylor and Fantasia have all released, Kelly is the ONLY one who proved that she could sell better on her second effort than she did her first....and that my friends, is what the industry looks at when gauging career longevity, not the debut album because it's EASY to blow up when you first come on the scene, with the right songs, the right videos, the right promo and especially coming off the biggest show on the planet....they don't even really look at the third or fourth album for that matter because by then you're an established artist and you should be taking artistic risks and trying new things, if music is truly your passion anyway.

Both Kelly and Carrie have peaked saleswise..... Carrie did it too soon that's all; so no matter what she does from here on out it will appear that she really DID need Idol to get her career. Whereas Kelly was able to step away from Idol and find bigger worldwide success than ever before proving that she would've been able to have a career even if she never appeared on idol although it would've taken her longer to get there.

Taylor Swift is only selling slightly less than Carrie with an album that's been out since 2006 so it's really all relative I guess.

I think people forget that Breakaway was written off within it's first 8 weeks too yet hit after hit was released and the album just kept on selling.

Kelly will never sell like she did with Breakaway. Everyone knew that even before she released My December. But of course the idiots like you tried to put expectations on the CD that were impossible to live up to just so you could call it a failure. Just like you're doing with AIEW.

and Kelly went to an Adele concert....praised her and said everyone should go buy her album and see her in concert...... When was the last time Carrie praised another artist? I don't/didn't have expectations for Carrie. I knew she wouldn't sell like she did with SH. Her fans thought otherwise and now almost 18 months later she hasn't even hit 3 million, even with all the hits, awards, promo, performances and concerts. At least with Kelly the reality is My December was dead in the water pretty much from its release date, hell it was actually dead before that considering there were reviews saying it was a flop before it ever even went on sale

and actually Taylor Swifts album being the the oldest album in the top 50 @ 132 weeks or 2 1/2 years old is the REAL sign of longevity.......
