No one will step up to lead, but all tell us how they need to come together. Crystal wants to be a warrior, while Susie seems to want to be as invisible as possible. I haven't seen the Sunday promo, but someone thought it looked like a tribe mix-up this week. We knew it was coming, so no surprise. But this season it may actually help FF4 formation rather than hurt it.

It's interesting, though, that strong tribes always seem to have at least one strong parent figure. In this case, Bob for Kota. Bob's an interesting character from the family perspective. He's been an active leader in camp organization, but gets described as "benign" by Corinne. He's a great Father figure in that his leadership steers clear of competition with the Sons. Bob should go far. Looking forward to what the switcheroo brings this time. Usually I just groan that the families have been wrecked. This time it might actually improve things a bit.

I had a thought last night: Gabon is called "Eden," and that made me want to look for Adam and Eve. Eve = Sugar. Adam?

It'll be interesting from a FF4 viewpoint if she manages to outlast any of the Sons. Everyone still seems in tribal strength mode. Though Marcus did acknowledge her work in camp.

But wait, I thought Marcus was Adam. Then Ace is the serpent, right? And Sugar says "He's a snake, but he's MY snake". Yes, I would say Susie will be the next to go from NuKota, unless she does some major mojo. But that's only if they lose the challenges. With Marcus leading them, I think NuKota will do well in most physical challenges. They merge with 9, right? If I had to pick the members who make it to the merge episode right now, I'd pick: Marcus Charlie Corinne Dan Ace Ken Crystal Matty Randy or Sugar That and $4 will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Kota F - Marcus M - Bob, Susie S - Charlie, Dan D - Corinne E - Randy Fang F M - Crystal S - Matty, Ken, GC, Ace D - Sugar, Kelly E As the game started, Bob was in a father/provider/organizer role with Kota. However, he never took on the leader/protector aspects of that role, now that their camp and their daily routines are established, he has shifted into a nurturing role (physically, not emotionally). While he is much stronger within the tribe that Susie, she is stronger at mothering. Bob potentially could shift to a E/grandfather role to avoid conflict with her or Randy. Marcus started out intentionally not in a unique parent role, to push attention to Ace, but is now more publicly head of household with his ranking of most important and his challenge leadership. Crystal has identified herself as M from the beginning, and definitely relates that way to Ken and GC, and somewhat to Matty. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the skills to take on the F role as well, leaving the tribe poorly provisioned and unprotected (from nature, from Kota, and especially from Probst). Ace so far has been intentional about burrowing in as a middle son, but has the potential for parenting or for eccentricity, leaving a true S role to the strongest son (Matty), and booting the weaker ones (Ken and GC), along with the superfluous daughter. Probably won't last that long before the merge, but there is potential for a functional core Fang family.

He also showed complete acceptance of his role as an outer member of the alliance. This would fit my expectation of an Eccentric. Eccentrics to me, survive by staying non-competitive on the whole, and loyal to their alliance. This means absolutely no attempts at alternate strategic moves. If I'm right, though, it would mean that Kota has two possible Eccentrics (not a workable situation). Bob is in the earliest and most complex alliance shown so far. He's a "benign" member, which bodes well. If Randy is to become a successful Eccentric, he will have to show strong loyalty to an alliance. At this time he's in the minority on Kota. He has also shown no loyalty to anyone and has told us (while still a part of Fang) that he's waiting for the others of (old) Fang to self destruct. Of the two, I would expect Bob to be the successful Eccentric.

Randy definitely is making the right moves towards becoming the longest lasting E on his tribe. Assuming both Bob and Randy make the merge, I could see Bob going first (of the two), as he's too nice and too dangerous to keep to the end. Randy, the curmudgeon, would be a much better choice to keep around. I've decided NuFang will lose all the remaining ICs. And I think Matty is ready to flip on Crystal, so her time (and that of Ken) is limited. I think Crystal is the next to get the boot. Here's my newly revised merge list: S - Marcus S - Charlie S - Dan S - Matty D - Sugar D - Corinne M - Susie F - Ace F/E - Bob E - Randy When I line them up this way, I see another reason why Bob could go before Randy--his role is not clearly defined (IMO). Is he Father/Provider? or Eccentric Boy Scout? Also, we have WAY too many sons here. If only one son will make it to the end, that will be Marcus. If only one daughter will make it to the end, that will be Sugar. I could see a more traditional Family Final Four this time: F - Ace D - Sugar S - Marcus E - Randy OR possibly F - Ace M - Susie D - Sugar S - Marcus Last Edited By: MissScamper 10/17/08 11:37 AM. I don't see him providing for or protecting his family. The only person he seems to care about except himself is Sugar. Crystal's whole "eat your rice" scene was very motherish to me. She seems more like a bossy mom who just expects/orders the kids to behave rather than a nurturer. I've seen so little of Susie it's hard to tell if she's a nurturer either. This might just be another season with no mom in the F4.

Posts: 773 (10/17/08 1:59 PM) Registered User Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I see Ace as a father, as he's always right there in the challenges, serving as a key player (i.e., blocking the balls and fruit, stepping up to try to keep the lacrosse ball away from Marcus when no one else could manage the boats, etc.). I'd call it protecting/providing, in that he is trying to win the challenges so his tribe doesn't go to TC. I'm sure Ace is right there deciding who will play what part in each challenge.

Yes, his team would benefit too but especially at IC it is more dangerous for him to be on the losing side. I will agree that he seems to have a lot of say in assigning tasks during challenges. Unfortunately, I'm not sure Fang really wants someone to take charge like that no matter how much it might help them to have a real leader.

Before we start judging him too harshly, we have to remember that his negativity has been shaped a great deal by what we're given. I try to leave the edit manipulations in Edgic and see the players as their "real" selves, at least as far as FF4 goes. Ace is seen by Sugar as her protector, which is a possible Father role. Though I'm sure there's physical attraction, they haven't shown any romantic interest and seem to be in a straight-up strategic relationship. Since he's been dumped into Fang as an outnumbered newcomer, he could hardly assert himself in camp. But I agree, he's worked hard at the challenges. I don't know if that is leading, but it's the sort of thing that earns respect in camp and can result in true leadership, without it being announced. As the old remaining Fang members disintegrate, it seems likely that one of them will move to get in with Ace and Sugar. In such a case, Ace would be the leader and, due to his power and challenge skills (and food. Remember how thankful they were when he said he could find ginger for them.) If he isn't yet, he could well be Fang's Father soon.

It reminds me of a pairs of siblings who are at boarding school while their parents work overseas or something. Not lost and orphaned, but with more self-sufficiency as a pair than siblings a parent in the household. In the context of all of Fang, Sugar has sort of an odd role just because she's only there half the time.
