hey everyone...
i've been waiting to classify everyone until i saw more of Galu... i think i have enough now to make a call on it.... FOA FOA F - Mick, EvilRussell M - D - Ashley, Natalie, Liz S - Jaison E - They voted out their only mother (Betsy). I think Liz is too much of a D. I could see arguments for EvilRuss to be an E.... but at the moment, considering how so many people respond to him as a leader and as a decision maker, and that he does a lot of work, etc... i think he fits the F role better (although he is definitely a BAD DAD) GALU F - GoodRussell, Erik M - Laura D - Yasmin, Monica, Kelly S - John, Brett E - Shambo, Dave I think Erik is more of a Father, he is shown to be trying to lead, building stuff, providing, etc and he is critical of the other Father. I suspect that if a leadership issue arises on Galu it will be between these 2. Laura is definitely Mom.... he was cuddly with Monica after the E2 IC, and she was petting Monica's head and told her how proud she was of her performance, etc. She is also trying to take care of the others, ie with the Yoga, etc. She's a "fun mum" like Debbie was last season. Danger Dave is definitely E... no more needs to be said there. Shambo... she just doesn't fit with her tribe. She's an ex-marine which signifies serious loyalty (an E requirement) but she is coming across as too brash, and views herself as an outsider. She is not a mother type.... i could see arguements for a Father though. The rest of the "girls" all get daughters because of their reaction / responses to the "comfort" reward. And the fact the GoodRussell (who is married and has a daughter) wants to take care of "his women" |

F - Good Russell, Dave
M - Laura D - Monica, Kelly S - Erik, Brett E - John, Shambo, Yasmin I think Danger Dave is an eccentric but he also has two factions looking at him the sons (Eric and Brett) and the mother/daughter (Monica and Kelly) I think all three E's have hooked themselves to possible F's and all three F's will let them down. Foa Foa F - Mick M - Evil Russell S - Jaison D - Ashley, Elizabeth, Natalie Evil Russell is playing the game like a mother trying to nuture all the people in the tribe to him without actually leading the tribe. |

So far, we agree on a lot and disagree on a few. Let's see what kind of agreement we can get before the next ep. Experience shows that those about whom we
disagree at ep 4 tend to go home by F6, and often before the merge.
PS: Welcome to those who are new! And HEY! to Phoenix1269 (waving)! |

Evil Russell is playing the game like a mother trying to nuture all the people in the tribe to him without actually leading the tribe. I don't see any nurturing in Evil Russ. He's stated that he planned to make life hell for everyone as a way to manipulate them . He plans to use people until their no longer useful and then throw them away. He's always shown on the outside of everything. He talks to people individually and in isolation from the group. He tells them lies to manipulate their feelings. An Eccentric is someone who doesn't fit any family role. We sometimes call them aunts or uncles or some such, but really, they are outside the immediate family. Russ doesn't provide, ("...I'm here to play.") He doesn't nurture. And he doesn't act with sibling rivalry or bonding. He's a very antisocial Eccentric. |

Sorry I took so long to start posting. Life's kinda hectic around my house these days.
Family roles I see at this point: Foa Foa Ashley- D Liz- D Jaison- S Mick-F Natalie- D Russel- E They voted Mom Betsy off. Foolish foolish... Galu Brett-S Dave- Some are seeing him as Eccentric, but he's behaving and talking like a Son. Erik- Has definite leadership qualities, but so far is behaving like a Son. John- S Kelly- D Laura- Shows leadership and nurturing, so as far as I can tell (from the thin storyline) she's a Mother. Monica- D Russel S.- He was picked as leader and his attempts to be one has put him in a Father position. He has been a weak Father, so far, but he has attempted to keep morale up. Shambo- Eccentric. She's a misfit, but she's desperately looking for a family group that she can be loyal to. Yasmin-D I really would like some Galu story soon! |

Hi, FLF!!!!!!!!!! Good to see you back!! I agree with all of your ratings, except with the Ms--with Shambo I find myself still holding out, hoping for her to
end up as M. She looks E-ish on Galu, but she looked so M-ish to me on FoaFoa--I believe someone on that tribe even called her that. I'm really missing a
strong M on Survivor these days... Laura reminds me of a certain kind of person out here where I live who tries quite hard to be motherlike at age 15, and can
be quite convincing...the parentified eldest daughter. I'm not sure leading yoga is nurturing. I have noticed the nurturing "I'm proud of
you" comments, though. Still watching her. No strong mothers left, in any case.
As for Russell the Hateful, the man is an anti-father. Tom from S3 (Africa) was our "fool" archetypal eccentric, and he was so much fun. Russell the H is as extreme as he was, only extreme in creepy darkness instead of jester fun. It's interesting how, because he believes he is a F, others see him as an F--but that does not make him an F. Russell the H reminds me more of a Superman villian, honestly (and we all know what happens to those...usually at the end, although we can hope he'll be booted soon and Galu will emerge in focus). Keep the opinions coming, everyone! |

I was hopeful for seeing strong parents in this cast given how many older people there were, but none of them developed into strong parents. It's pretty
disappointing actually.

Hi Lady V! Thanks for all the exclamation points. Lol. I can see the Mother role for Shambo if she makes it into the Foa Foa group. (And the story is hinting strongly that she does just that.) Every comment about her from the Foa Foans was strongly positive in a very family way. Mick and Jaison spoke of wanting to adopt her if they could. That's family talk, not alliance talk. We'll see. |

Yeah, it seems like you could definitely make some stable family groupings if you shuffled everyone up. This might be a season where a switch/pickem would be
interesting.
Yall have convinced me to go with RussHell as the anti-mother. I don't think he is paternal, he's not leading or protecting or providing for the tribe as a whole. But he's not an outsider or lacking relationships. He seems to have something going with just about everyone. It's a lot like Cirie, definitely an M, the way he talks to people, especially S and D people, one-on-one and comforts and nurtures them into doing his will. Except in confessionals we see him as evil and her as sweet. If he's anti-M, it would explain why good M Betsy had to go so early, and why he and young F Mick get on so well. |

I agree with FLF. I see no signs of nurturing in Russell the Hateful. I also see no signs of father-like providing for the tribe (of course, I may have
forgotten/missed something), but I just don't recall seeing RtheH doing any work around camp, fishing, hauling water or firewood, etc. I'm sticking
with my original E designation for RtheH. As I think LadyV mentioned, if we have trouble classifying a survivor, that means he/she is an upcoming boot. If we
continue to disagree about Shambo and Russell the Hateful, I think we should expect them to get the boot soon.

Birdlady, I didn't mean to introduce a new category--I believe Russell the Hateful is an E. He will always truly be on the outside of any family group
he's in, whether or not he has conned someone into being his patsy--because he's malevolent. He was classified as "evil" immediately.
He's not nurturing or receptive or concerned with tribal harmony (M), he's not protective or providing sustenance for the tribe (F), he's not
relating to a parental figure as an S or D, he's weird, he's creepy, he's scary, he's bizarre, he's malevolent--he's E. An anti-parent
is an E. We just haven't seen this level of sociopathy before on the show. I could do without it now.
Really looking forward to seeing more of Galu... Russell the H depresses me! |

Hi, I saw this thread and wanted in.
Foa Foa F - No one, I don't see Mick as a fatherly enough character, he is succumbing to Evel Russell pressure. M - No one again (after Betsy left). Hasn't history proved that tribes without a Parent are dysfunctional? D - Ashley, Natalie, Liz S - Jaison, Mick E - Evel Russell Mick or Jaison needs to step into the father role, to weed out Russ, which is doubt will happen, Jaison is whining about the weather next ep. Galu F - Dread Russell, Erik M - Laura (kind of an evil mother though) D - Kelly, Monica, Yasmin (D/E) S - Brett, John (bordering on F/E) E - Dave, Shambo Erik is showing some fatherhoodedness and Laura, who is a g-mom is shown taking care of Monica. In the Galu 'relishing the win' video, Erik was out catching fish with Russell, two fathers working together? Yasmin is outspoken and doesn't want to be cared for, if you get my drift, she is all independant, even though she loved it when Russ picked comfort, she will take comfort, but be independant about it, if you know what I mean. John is one I'm hazy about, he doesn't show any distinct signs of being S/F/E, could be a D? I dunno clearly, hoping to see much much more Galu. Hope you'll have me in the speculation this season, I'll be back for mext ep. |

Welcome, Stryme.
Here's LadyV's intro from page 5 of this thread. This takes us all the way back to 2004! (There are more interesting and useful posts from her on the same page.) Never fear! I made a copy, on my own computer, of all the most important posts in this thread. I'm going to repost them when a little time has gone by. :) |

Holy moly. Random thoughts. I do not like the Galuvians much.
I had to smile when, for the reward challenge, Chief Mick picked Natalie and Russell the Hateful, and Chief Russell the Sweet picked Shambo and Dave. Little families... I see Dave as an immature S, not an E. I forgot to pay attention to Laura. From the preview, it looks like Liz is going to be the next one voted out on Foa Foa, unless she gets immunity. Welcome, Stryme! I see Mick as the F of that tribe, although neither F is particularly strong / spellbinding this season. This is the E season, it seems. Anyway, it seems to me that many times in the past, the E has influenced the F--that is, the F has turned to the E for advice, all the way back to S3. Yes, parentless tribes are dysfunctional, and not particularly fun to watch, IMO. So what do we know so far? Most of us agree we have Mick and Russell the Sweet as the Fs. We have Laura as an M. Shambo seems, by consensus, to be an E, as is Russell the Hateful. The rest are probably kids. The role with the best chance of winning Survivor is parent. So, from a FF4 perspective, the most likely winners are: Mick, Russell S., or Laura, inept though they may be. Shambo and Russell H. cannot win, because they are Es. It's possible this season will be totally crazy, and we'll end up with 3 kids in the F4 with their abusive crazy uncle Russell H., but I don't think so. ;) Edited to add: Oh my heck (she was so fun before she went on The View!). Why not? Very Early prediction for F6: F = Russell S. OR Mick (leaning toward Mick) M = Laura E = Russell the Hateful OR Shambo (I wish it were Shambo; I'm so sick of RH; but there may be more role confusion around Shambo--kiss of death) and three sons/daughters... maybe Ashley, Erik, John

I forget if yall consider the non-broadcast scenes, but there's an interesting one of Hateful Russell being vulnerable. We're trying to assign roles
based on the edited characters, but the folks out there were playing their roles and fitting into their families (or
not) based on their real character.
Yasmin and Shambo both clearly not a good family fit with their tribe, but I'm wondering if that is a cultural misfit, not fundamental eccentricity. (Even an E is supposed to fit somehow, right, crazy grandpa or the wacky neighbor or such, just not nuclear family?) Prediction-wise, I still think Father Mick, anti-Mother Russell, Son Jaison, and Daughter Natalie are a stable, if creepy, family unit. Or short-term, even with Son Liz (the non-dumbass girl) and Eccentric black yalie Jaison. No need for Ashley, plenty of room for Shambo post-merge. For Galu F - Russell M - Laura S - Erik, Dave, ?John D - Kelly, Monica ? - Brett Oldest Son Erik could step up to replace fading Father Russell, I think. So Erik/Laura/Dave/Kelly perhaps as a stable grouping, losing some of the younger, cuter but less useful, children. |

Editing is such an epic fail this season that we still can't classify Brett by the end of episode 4. I still think Jaison is an S; he hasn't crossed
into E territory yet.

I think this thread will be really important again. It usually is when there's this superiority between the tribes and the tribe that is closer/more of a
family consists of most of the end-gamers (like in Tocantins, Fei Long, Cook Islands, and Gabon)
Mick: F to Foa, S to Russell Russell: E, yet F to some players (or M because of the "I care about you" relationships, even though it's fake)--specifically Mick, Natalie, and Jaison [sort of Liz and Ashley in the past] Natalie: D E: Shambo F: Russ S M: Laura D: Monica, Kelly I think our Final 4 is in the group above., but with mainly Foa Foans because of the complexity of their roles/family.

Foa Foa seems like a classic "parentless" tribe, hence its repeated trips to Tribal Council. Mick is the eldest son being forced into the father
role, but he's clearly not comfortable in it. Russell H. is definitely an E.
On Galu, Russell S. has accepted the father role, but he seems more of a tyrant than a nurturer, given his threats when he found out that most of his tribe wanted to vote out Yaz rather than Monica. And yet he ended up backing down, which tells me that they aren't looking up to him. I agree that Laura is an M, but she gives me a creepy vibe -- like an evil stepmother or Lady MacBeth. It wasn't shown, but I have to assume she was the one protecting Monica and pushing for a Yaz boot -- which she got. So mom and dad are fighting for control at Galu, and mom won the first round. Mom and dad fighting is not good for the family. Shambo is an E on Galu, but we've seen foreshadowing that she could be a strong M if she makes it to the merge. I can see her jumping to the (presumable) Foa Foa minority after a merge and giving them a parent to rally around. Or maybe Shambo and Eric (they seem to have some kind of connection) could become mom and dad to the orphan Foa Foas, with Russell H as the eccentric? |
