Look, this is not different that stuff that happens every day in corporate America. An older employee is nudged into retirement so that he can be replaced by a younger (and cheaper) worker. Older employee doesn't want to retire and wants to work for a competitor. Employer throws a fit and waves around employment contract. Employee says, "but you didn't want me! Why can't I work somewhere else?" Employer says "We don't want to pay you, but we don't want you improving our competitor!" The only difference is that this employment dispute is being played out in front of the media. And I don't blame Favre or the Packers for that. I blame fucking ESPN.

You know, I just got home from listening to Jerry Angelo's presser after Bears training camp and for some reason my blood is just boiling over this Devin Hester holdout. Angelo says the predictable song and dance about how he's disappointed it got to this point. Blah blah blah. Then he admits the agent (Eugene Parker, not Douche Rosenhaus) told him in their last talk a few days ago that this was an option, but he didn't think it was serious. I think I want to punch Angelo in the throat for worrying more about catering to that aging, deteriorating crybabytittysucker who didn't actually deserve more money and who wasn't really necessary for training camp given all the other money thrown at the defense rather than making sure the team had back the Bears' best player last year, the one who was best offensive asset for what he meant to field position and scoring on returns and a man who could easily be the team's no. 1 receiver this coming year if he can rise above all the other half-hearted attempts by Angelo to shore up the receiving corps after letting Bernard Berrian go bye-bye if only he can best the malcontented castoff Brandon Lloyd, former Arena Leaguer/Best Buy clerk Rashied Davis and dinosaur Marty Booker. UGH. I'M LIVIDDDDDDDDDDD!

Meanwhile, we were yapping about service academy grads going into the NFL a while back. If his contract were actually up though, paying a returner like a top-5 receiver in the league would certainly be a good idea. But you're right, the franchise tag is probably on Rex Grossman. They're paying him like a top-5 QB in the league. You're basically retarded.

But without decent wideouts, the Bucs would still suck. Of course, that assumes that he would even go there. I still say that if he can't go to the Vikes, he'll stay retired. That's why he insisted on being released without condition, because he knew it was the only way he'd be able to sign with Minnesota.

The Tampa talk only comes from the fact that Gruden likes to collect QBs and runs a West Coast offense. Garcia took them to the playoffs last year, and I believe they just signed him to an extension. The only team really hurting at QB is Chicago, but the Bears are a long way from making a playoff runs. The Vikes have filled in their holes at DE, safety and WR pretty nicely during the off-season, and the only big question mark on the team is at QB. Add that the Vikes OC is Favre's former QB coach and thus Favre should have a relatively easy time learning the playbook, and the Vikes are the only team that really fits Favre's criteria. Plus, it would really piss off the Packers to see Favre in purple . . . .

I'd be nothing less than shocked if the Vikings made any effort to sign Favre after this. The dumbass might have actually had an outside chance to play for Minnesota, but he blew that by making repeated contact with the team when he shouldn't have. A lot of the talking heads in this neck of the woods (as opposed to the dolts on ESPN) are pretty convinced Favre will now stay retired.

Afterall, is he not Brett Favre's longstanding friend and agent and advisor. Right now, I see nothing but a botched up, mishandled, misguided and untenable situation for both sides. Something a good agent would try hard not to do in order to keep his client at top market value.
