First, I have been told that the story of this season is that there is no story - no love connection. I honestly don't know how this will be edited or portrayed, but my guy on the inside said that the season was a "friggin' disaster" and the screenwriters worked overtime to create these subplots to make a show out of nothing.
Second, I have now heard from 3 people who I trust that Ed's "girlfriend" in Chicago was not one girl but two who did not know about each other until their friends started talking about his participation on the show.......and the fact that he had a girlfriend........and then figured out they were not talking about the same girl.
The first one I know for a fact. The second one has a high degree of reliability.

Well, sometimes he's right, sometimes he's wrong, and mostly he's got a piece here or there. Same thing last season with Meli. He takes a kernel and makes it more than it is with his spin.

As to Ed, who knows. It's confirmed by his family that he had a girlfriend but they broke up months agao and are still friends. Other than that, who knows? who cares? They apply for the show many months ahead of time, get picked a few months before, and wait. I would expect every one of them is getting something in the interim. Including Jill.

As to the season being a friggin disaster, wouldn't surprise me at all. The original guys were selected wtih Melissa in mind. They, for the most part, are not Jill types. From what I've heard, tthe powers had to do a lot of massaging so to speak to get many of them to stay. Those guys didn't have Jill in mind when they agreed. And she's just not the intersting or attractive to carry the show, frankly.

seems to me it wouldn't matter who they had in mind when picking these guys - one thing is for sure they don't care to match up with an actual type - otherwise why would guys like Bilbro, David and Wes even be there.

No doubt Melissa's F4 would be different - highly doubt Ed would've made it past night 1

Started out talking about sdl but applies equally to the other guy. I agree they don't give a shit about the bach(ette) per se as everyone on this show is a piece of meat or a pawn in a chess game (pick your metaphor). But they try to at least make us think they do, and they try to set up their storyline. So, when you see a bunch of rather attractive boy toys and southern types, you don't think Jill. You do think Mel. .Of course they throw in the clumkers who are there for our comic relief, such as Juan, David, Billbro, or to play a bad guy role such as Wes.

I do know that they tried to get Mel to agree rather hard and the pitch included pix of Jake, Wes, Mike and Kip. I also know the 5 who were added late were designed to give Jill some choice since she is very insecure about her looks, height and frankly age,(sorry to say). Funny that outside of the scripted bad guy and the original frontrunner to be F2 all along (Wes and Kip), the other 2 are ones Meli wouldn't touch but were part of the late add ons. Reid is too short and slight for her; Ed is too laconic and frat boy for her.

My guess: we would have still seen Wes, and Kip most likely as script driven; and the other 2 would have been based on her tastes, Jake and either Mark or Jesse. I like that F4 better just for my viewing pleasure, but hey we have what we have.
