She tapes stuff quite a bit (like when she goes to the opera or country club, etc). Anyway...all she has is a regular antannae on the roof....she doesn't want cable/satellite, etc. So...I went to get a new VCR/DVD player and NONE fo them have the RF-screw in antannae connectors now. They all have RCA connectors to hook up to sattelite or cable boxes....but I know they have the antane kind at Best Buy. So my question is....will a new VCR/DVD of this type become obsolete in 9 months when they switch to digital (oh yeah...her t.v. isn't digital either).? Will we have to put one of those convertors on...and will it plug into the VCR/DVD antanae kind ....or will we need an RCA type? So confusing. WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN? WHAT SHOULD WE BUY?

Naahhh...she's fine with network t.v. stuff. I swear...she tapes stuff like "Masterpiece Theater", "Jane Austin" stuff,....and "Two and half Men" (oh that mom...she sure loves that Two and Half Men)..... ...and her t.v. was new right before they started making digital stuff....it has all the gamey hook-ups and everything. (she sure loves her Nintendo.) And yes Pappy.....in 2009, the line at Circuit City is going to be down the block with people asking questions...and not getting correct answers. I'm thinking in 2009, we're making mom get cable wether she likes it or not.

Heh..I have a roof antanae too.....but how come I get all the digital stations fine on my digital t.v. with regular antannae.? I'm telling you...."high-def" is just a scam to sell more t.v.s.......they're are just broadcasting with more powerful signals is all. HIGH DEF does not eist.

Posts: 2806 (03/19/08 11:34 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I believe the digital antennas actually plug into the coaxial plug, like a regular RF antenna (unless she's still using prongs for her connection, in which case you need the adapter). Regardless, come 2009, as long as she has the digital antenna, she'll be fine. The analog antenna will be scrap metal after the switch. With regards to cable companies, I think most, if not all, of them this year are selling the digital converter box as part of the basic package in anticipation for the switch. As far as the DVD/VCR combo goes, it depends on what you want to do for her. If she doesn't buy a lot of NEW DVDs, then just buy a new DVD/VCR combo. If she does buy a lot of new DVDs, then you might have a quandary there as I'm thinking within seven or eight years, the DVD will go the way of videocassettes and she'll be stuck with more scrap metal. The unfortunate part is that the new Blu-Ray DVDs require a HD television, so within the next decade she could be forced to buy a new television as well.
