In most seasons, I prefer the pre-merge part of the season. For one thing, the entertainment over time diminishes as contestants get voted out. I generally will watch the early episodes of any season more than I watch the Finales. Secondly, most seasons such as Africa, Marquesas (after the power shift), Thailand, Guatemala, Panama etc. have stretches of 3 or 4 lackluster, predictable episodes in the early to middle post merger period where the group with numbers just picks off the outsiders who have no chance unless they win Individual Immunity. It took Survivor six seasons (thanks to the great Rob Cesternino) to finally liven things up during that period and thankfully Pearl Islands was even better (thanks to Fairplay and Sandra). But later seasons such as All Stars, Guatemala, Panama, Cook Islands were a return to the old paradigm

Premerge is the most painful to watch on the game. it's torturing to lose great people too early.
