I'm not a big Mia fan, and I sure as hell don't consider her the "genius" a lot of other people do, but I find her routines a lot more
interesting that the crapola Tabitha and Napoleon are trotting out. I also wasn't all that knocked out by the comic book routine: the choreographer had a
self-consciously edgy look, and her explanation of the dance seemed like it should have been interesting.....and then they danced it and it was tired crap
we've seen a million times before.
The judges can certainly sway people, either directly or in a contrarian way, but I think the way the practice sessions and profiles are edited probably move people just as much if not more. |

I tend to mute the judges most of the time.

I honestly dont know if the judges have that much influence on how people vote. Everyone who has been in the bottom so far deserved to be in the bottom IMO.

I think how the dancers are portrayed in their rehearsal footage and in their backstage footage has just as much influence as the judges, if not more. People vote for who they like, plain and simple. If their favourite falls they are still going to vote for them. |

Never thought of that. Great point. An unrelated pet peeve of mine that may have already been beaten to death (if so, skip it): They spent a lot of time during the auditions on certain "personalities", but virtually ignored a lot of people who made it through. Then, in Vegas, we weren't shown why some of them weren't selected to be in the top 20. I'd like to see a shift next season to showing the people who are decent dancers and away from some of this bear-baiting of the obese and the mentally ill. |

Since like, five people in CTS watch SYTYCD
MDC/GP/mal rank the SYTYCD Season 3 Routines! I think most admittedly wouldn't mind the pimping if it was their favorite being pimped. Yeah, I don't like the Will pimpage, but if Katee was being pimped? I probably wouldn't mind. o_O Eep. |

Rehearsal footage manipulation makes me wish they showed the melt downs that Will and Jessica had. |

Another reason that I think that Mia is a genius and that IMO last season had more outstanding dancers and routines. I didn't even like Lacey and this was
amazing.

I agree that they don't show all the audition solos because they need to save some surprise for the later shows and some of the audition solos are bad or
mediocre (example: Neil Haskell).
Honestly, I don't think that the producers put ugly outfits on the dancers on purpose. The producers want viewers to keep watching the show. Putting ugly or boring choreography on the show on purpose would turn off viewers and result in lower ratings and low tour ticket sales.

As for the number of tricks in a routine, I thought that tricks were integral to break dancing, while they aren't essential in contemporary.I would say yes and no (as an opinion because I have just gotten into dancing). Contemporary on this show is a huge lump. Nigel calls many dancers contemporary when they are not that (how else could you put a ballet dancer like Danny in the same category as a fusion dancer like Mark, for example?). Depending on the type of contemporary dancer one is, tricks may be integral. If anyone recalls Danny's final solo last year, that solo was really tricked out but those leaps across stage (I forget the ballet name) and pirourettes are decently common to ballet dancing. I think the acceptance (by the judges) of tricks as something more than a trick is based on two things A) what I mentioned before - the musicality and the level of planning it shows. Gev's moves were mostly timed to the beats or lyrics (he's done this in his audition solos as well) whereas sometimes when other dancers do it, it was clear they was throwing everything in but the kitchen sink without care for the music and B) the person who is doing those tricks. Marquis was going to go home pre-top 10 no matter what, unfortunately. So one could argue that it was merely an excuse (as I personally feel it was). |

Yeah, I agree with that. There was a guy last year, don't remember his name but Mia said he was her favorite dancer. Seemed like an incredible technician to me (which means nothing because I'm no expert either), and he was the first one out. If it were just on dancing ability I think he'd have been there till the end, but there seemed to be something "off" about him. I suspect they wanted to get rid of him when they had the chance so he didn't end up touring with the group. There was another one this season I felt the same way about. |

Thanks for posting that Cameron/Lacey/Mia dance again. I had forgotten how fabulous it was. One of my favorites ever.

Rehearsal footage manipulation makes me wish they showed the melt downs that Will and Jessica had.Agreed...If Nigel's going to mention a meltdown, show it!!! Did they struggle with the dances??? Was it bickering between them two!??! That's what I wanna know and see. Also, how come poor Cicely and Olisa got the porn star basement turned dance studio?!?!? |

I think they film rehersal only at specific times so if they're having breakdowns at other times it won't be on the show.
Although I loved the backstage moment of the girl that refused to practice that was paired with our precious Demetri in the second season. |
