The other 2 were okay. Usually precocious brats annoy the shit outta me but the other two were not that annoying this episode. I really thought it was sweet
that Sarah Jane finally had a "child." I loved that upstairs room. Was sad about K-9 essentially being written out of the series on that excuse.
So far I like this show. The kids in Britain must be more sophisticated than the spoonfed, braindead ones over here because this isn't the level of action you'd get from a kiddie SF show produced here. |

Russell Davies used to write for kids TV. One of the reasons he created this show was he thought kids needed an alternative to the usual crap.
The casting is very good. My favorites are Sarah of course, and Maria's hot father. I liked that they had an alien from the same race as a Torchwood episode (the alien who masqueraded as a woman and got together with Tosh), but they didn't make a big deal out of this, so people could just connect the shows if they wanted to connect them. |

I'm a huge fan of the Sarah Jane Adventures, even more than Torchwood, I think. Some of the later episodes are absolutely fantastic, and even though
it's for kids, it doesn't feel like a kid's show (save for the teenage main characters).
I like most of the characters, but I'm especially fond of Sarah Jane and the three Jackson's (especially the hot dad) |

If you wonder what was edited out of the Sci-Fi Channel version (so they can run a million commercials), here's a list.

K-9 was written out?? I loved K-9. I was planning on starting to check the series out on-line but with no K-9, I'm not so sure.

The men who created K-9 still own the rights and are trying to sell a spinoff show for him. They allowed him to be used occasionally on SJA.

I liked the episodes but Luke's continued naivete was annoying, It may be true to the nature of his character but it still became annoying as it was the
predictable way the plot developed. I hate it when a plot advances on a character's stupidity. I would have thought that he would have learned that bad
people, mean people were to be avoided, that not all people deserve to have questions answered, etc. that basic suspicions and cautions would have already
started developing.
Also, back to my earlier post that child actors annoy the crap outta me....Clyde. What a butthole character that is. ANNOYING. The deleted scenes might have had me liking him better, I would have made better connections about 'who the hell was he' and 'from where did he show up?' I don't know, but as shown I couldn't stand him. I couldn't figure out why someone who was so condescending should continue to hang around with them. Don't like them? Don't hang with them unless you're an actor being paid to play a poorly written excuse for a part. I like this show better than Torchwood. If Torchwood gets back to more SF and less snogging then I'll start watching that again. If it doesn't, I won't miss it. I still like this one but it has more to do with Sarah Jane, the neighbor, the girl and the aliens. Luke and Clyde? No. Let the aliens get them. It would be funny if the nuns in the current episode had a side nursery business selling garden statuary. |

I bought this on DVD since I love Torchwood and Doctor Who and I fell in love with this kids show. Watched it in a day. I thought all of it was great and "sophisticated" for a children's show. Though nothing to serious it was nice seeing some subtle more adult plotlines with divorce and Sarah Jane being alone/lonely. The last four episodes were actually really good especially "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane."
The twist on Mr. Smith was also a great ending to the season. I actually prefer Clyde to the obnoxious black girl. She wasn't horrific but Clyde is so much better. It is too bad they cut out so much of him on the sci fi edits. I have yet to watch the second or third season but I also hope they make Luke a little bit smarter but I like the relationship between Sarah Jane and him. Both of them learning to love the other one. It was sweet. Maria was also great. I wasn't to sure about her in the "Invasion of Bane" but she grew on me. Her mom showing up whenever there was the disaster of the week was also comical. And any show that makes fun of Manimal gets points from me. Sarah Jane is also amazing! I want Elisabeth Sladen to make me a cuppa and take me on adventures. I'm a new Doctor Who fan so I have never seen her Doctor Who episodes but after watching this I think I might download them. But how can you not talk about Maria's dad? Joseph Millson. I was so glad when he got clued in to what was going on and helped out in the last episode. I hate that he and Maria get written out in the second season... He really was one of the best parts. Not sure if you post here anymore James Barber you should check out Joseph Millson's sex scene in Survivors. Nothing that great but if you are a fan... ![]()

I've watched every episode thus far, and even though Maria and her family were great characters, Rani and her parents really grew on me, especially Gita. I agree, though, that "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane" is one of the best episodes of not only The Sarah Jane Adventures, but of the new series of Doctor Who and Torchwood as well.

So excited, I am about to order the second series. Glad that the Jacksons replacements are great. I hear it only gets better and that season three is the best. I have a friend who watches Doctor Who and Torchwood and I am telling her that if she likes those shows she will love this. She didn't really get into The Invasion of Bane because of Kelsey and I guess she has some stigma against children shows. She loves David Tennant and even telling her that he was in a couple of episodes as the Doctor didn't interest her. But she didn't want to watch anymore which sucks.

I know I'm the only one on here that watched this, but I'm sad to see this series end. These last few episodes were really good, I surprisingly didn't hate Sky at all. Elisabeth Sladen was in top form in the Man Who Never Was. Definitely going to miss this. Great writing from Gareth Roberts and Phil Ford, glad Russell T. Davies wasn't there to screw it up and was off ruining Torchwood.
