Well it shouldn't be #2, but I do think it's Top 5 worthy. It's true that Danni probably wouldn't have picked Rafe anyway, and he probably wouldn't have won even if she did pick him, but at least if he tried to get her to stick to that promise he'd have some hope. Instead he basically just tells her that it's ok not to take him to the Final 2 and doesn't even seem to understand that by doing this he's basically giving up any chance of winning the game. He actually seems surprised and annoyed when Danni doesn't take him. It was just mind-boggling to me as a viewer.

I disagree. Regardless of what he said, it would have made no difference whatsoever. Let's run through the scenarios.

Rafe doesn't say it: Danni votes him out. He finishes third. Why? Because he voted out Lydia instead of Danni. Not because of him releasing her from her promise.

Rafe says it: We all saw what happened. Exactly what would have happened had he not said it.

I think it was one of many instances where Rafe was getting far too emotionally involved (like with the car thing), which along with him overplaying at times is what completely cost him the game. In the heat of the moment, with Stephenie laying on the ground crying, he didn't want things to be unfair and suddenly blurted that statement out. Yet he still expected Danni to bring him afterwards? It was a hasty, emotional statement that he shouldn't have made. But the fact of the matter is that what he said had 0% impact on Danni's decision.

I agree that it was not a smart thing to say. But to include it in the top 5, let alone the top 30 is really overblowing it in my opinion. It's like Sean's Super Pole 2000. Dumb yes, but had little impact on the game and hence is hardly comparable to so many other things that have happened in this game.

That said, Rafe's biggest mistake by far was not voting out Danni at Final 4, which is why I have that higher on my version of the list.

That's one thing we can definately agree on. I 100% agree with your inclusion of it as the third stupidest thing in Survivor history. THAT is where Rafe made the mistake. Screw that stupid "I release you from your promise" line. Danni should never have been there in the first place.

Her strategy was a great one if her goal was to come in 2nd, but that shouldn't have been her goal. Her goal should have been to win. To win she needed to bring Courtney or Shane to Final 2, so she should have done everything in her power to keep them around.

That's great of you to say here sitting in your house on your computer. In the situation where she was in at the time, with Terry on a huge immunity streak and two very attractive goats in Courtney and Shane around, there was no chance in hell in Danielle's mind that she'd make it to F3 with Courtney and Terry. You also conveniently 'forget' that Shane was trying to vote her out! She's supposed to try and keep around someone that wanted to get rid of her that much? It's very, very easy for you to say that Danielle was a moron for voting out Shane & Courtney. You sit in her position, you do EXACTLY the same thing because you don't even make it there in the first place if you don't vote them out. Danielle lost the game for two key reasons: one, a big ally, Bruce, left the game at F7 due to his bowels situation, depriving her of a big ally, one she would have beat in the end. And second, she competely blew her chance to build a better relationship with Austin and Sally while they were around. Those two didn't have great relationships with Aras either. Had she treated them better, she would have won. THAT is where she played badly, not her votes at F6 and F5, which she NEEDED to do or she was out of the game before F2.

Terry had 2 options at merge. Either try to pull Bruce over to gain the majority, or give up on the numbers game and try to survive every TC by either winning immunity or using his idol. Logically, the chances of the 2nd strategy working are close to zero, whereas if he managed to gain the majority he would have immediately become the person who was favored to win. Hence, he should have tried everything in his power to gain the majority. The question of whether it would have been a good or bad move for Bruce is irrelevant, as is the question of whether he would have been willing to flip. The point is just that Terry should have done everything in his power to gain the majority and he didn't. And for the record, I believe that if he had succeeded in pulling Bruce over he probably would have won the game.

Like I already said, your reasoning for someone's stupid move is that someone else (Bruce) didn't make an even stupider move! Terry tried! His offers were idiotic! Thats why he was stupid! His "come with us and be safe for a few days while you finish 5th and 6th" offers were the moronic offers. His not using the idol on Nick at the merge, or Austin or Sally the next two times was 100% the best move for him. If Terry uses the idol to get rid of Aras at the merge, Terry finishes fourth instead of third. Bruce sticks with Casaya because he was with Cirie & Danielle (not Aras, whom he didn't get along with), and Terry's team is still outnumbered, 5-4, but now Terry doesn't even have his idol and is finished the second he doesn't win immunity. Then the boot order goes Nick-Austin-Bruce(due to his illness)-Sally-Courtney-TERRY. Terry goes out even sooner!

Yes, Terry's methods for bringing people to his side were idiotic. That definately was stupid and deserving of being on this list. He not using the idol on someone else was the SMARTEST move that that ridiciously dumb player made the entire season. He'd be top 5 on this list with me if he used the idol on someone else and the power didn't shift at all, which is just what would have happened.

Even if Dreamz didn't keep his end of the bargain, Yau-Man had nothing to lose (except for a car) in making the deal, so I think it was definitely a good move for him. I think it came close to actually paying off too, because I think Dreamz really was seriously considering giving Yau-Man the immunity necklace at Final 4. And I don't think Dreamz was a "scumbag backstabber", I think that's a pretty big exaggeration : )

IMHO, Yau's deal put an even bigger target on his back (after all, they did try to get rid of him BEFORE F6 after he made the deal) then if he had not made it. In the end, all he lost was a car that he had won. Even if he hadn't made the deal, he still would have finished fourth. So its not one of the biggest stupidest decisions with me. I still think it was the wrong decision though given Dreamz's history.

For Dreamz, he would have lost regardless due to backstabbing Alex/Mookie/Edgardo and because Earl was so much more of a better player than him.
