I loved his spinning tongs. lisa and her boxes of ideas started boring me right about her second one.

Lisa's fish with the unpronounceable sauce looked okay and I really wanted to have at Adam's beer can chicken. But let's concentrate on Aaron's. For starters, I've never seen plantain cooked like that. Normally, it's precooked to soften it, then pressed flat and finally fried again to crisp it up. His unflattened plantain would probably be bland and mushy in the center. Rib eye steak! Can't go wrong with that. Unless you plop it down on a bed of slimy collard greens. Yuck! Nope. The only reason I can see for Aaron's victory would be affirmative action. The Neelys are the only black hosts the network currently has and I suspect they wanted more. Too bad they had to disappoint other qualified contestants in order to find another.

Flattening it up and frying is only one way. It's quite common to eat plantains soft like that. The problem I had was with all that BUTTER he threw in there. I believe that method of preparation is called the Fat Daddy Coronary Special. Blech. Somebody here compared his food to diner food and I think that's right on the money. If you're going to play the race card (and that's exactly what you did), at least know your facts. Sunny Anderson is a black woman who currently hosts two shows on the Food Network: one where she cooks which airs on the weekend in the same bloc with such heavyweights (heh) as Nigella, Ina and Paula, and another where she tours farms and manufacturing plants.

I can't stand them. all that cheerfulness and all. but at least you can understand them - should you have the desire to, which I don't. and Sunny hasn't exactly made me jump for joy waiting for her shows to come on. now, I am looking forward to Aaron's debut. just to see if he got speech lessons in the week before his first show.

The competition probably wrapped months ago, since there was no live element to it... Incidentally, that makes the fact that they weren't able to give Aaron a more positive edit the last few weeks even MORE telling...

She would kick Aunt Sandy's ass in a challenge! They should put Lisa vs. Sandra Lee on Iron chef.......that I would watch. I liked her the best and she should have won. Aaron is meh. That is all.

I gotta say, although I love beer and chicken, Adam's chicken just looked overspiced to me. I like to actually taste the chicken I eat. Besides Lisa being attractive as hell, her food looked like something A. I could actually make and B. something I actually would WANT to make. Aaron's food looked awful.

Which dishes we individually like is such a personal thing. I don't think it's indicative of who has done a good job or who would have a good show.

Posts: 866 (07/29/08 12:42 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I've been cooking dancin' chickens for years. they look so cute up on those beers cans - like can-can dancers. it's only the seasoning that actually touches the meat that makes a difference. the skin is more of a barrier and the spicyness would be more of a light flavoring through the meat from the steaming. I rub my chickens down pretty good (I love paprika). they turn out a nice golden brown on the outside and I don't eat the skin anyway. I go ahead and stuff rosemary in the cavity and under the skin for really good flavor. I've never cooked one inside. that would have to wait till winter.

He's not arrogant. He really likes food. Aaron is malleable and hits the right demographic. Now, lets look at the others: Adam tried to sell everyone a sob story about being a lonely loser. But that's what cost him a show. It was obvious that if Adam got a show, he'd be trying to hose every babe within fifteen yards. Food Network execs don't need that trouble around. He had no chance. Lisa was and is an ice queen. She softened up a few times, but it was all an act. She'd be hell on a set. As a TV gal-pal, women wouldn't like her. Kelsy had the right qualities, but not the breadth. Too squeaky-like-a-mouse and not enough gravitas. Annoying, basically. No gal-pal potential. And I've already forgotten about the other contestants. Good night.
