Ive been gay married in Canada for the past 2 years... My husband and I had been together for 7 years by then.
I had never really been interested in getting married or the politics of it, but the legalizing of it made me realize that just because we were homos we didn't have the same rights as the straights. It was kind of a shocking realization for me/us and were happy to now be invited to the party. SO now were all married and happy and crap and decide (last year) to go on a trip to NYC... we are at the airport and approach the customs officer to get over to 'the other side' and he asks us if we are family to which we reply 'yes'... he then asks us if we're brothers to which we reply 'no, we're married'... to which he replies back without the slightest pause 'NO, you're not.'.. and makes us separate... go to separate customs booths and submit separate customs cards... it was so unexpected that we found it disturbingly funny. So anyway, yay for gays in California... eventually all the states will follow suit... it'll probably take years... but human rights always march forward... even if they sometimes take a half step back. on a side note... I've always found it odd when straight folk even have an opinion on the topic, like it's any of their business anyway. |

It is disturbing to think that a supreme court can overrule the will of the people. Whether you like the outcome or not that is scary. Many a time the people vote against it only to have the politicians try to force it on them. Believe it or not, if the people had their say, there would be no gay marriage. I don't know where you're getting your fake facts from. |
