Remove this ad The cries of rigging are never new when it comes to reality shows you can't watch America's Next Top Model or Big Brother without seeing producers interfering and certain people eliminated for questionable reasons. American Idol on the other hand rarely deals with the production interference issues on the level of other shows. It's not unusual for certain singers to get favored and over praised is not unusual, but the volume of contestants that received questionable judgments makes this season so unique. In my eyes these are the big four Jason Castro received a number of weird critique's from the judges suddenly wanting him to fight to win, to the infamous double judging thing, to Andrew Loyd Webber sort of trashing him on stage. Syesha received a number of back handed compliments all season and her final three week garnered cries of sabotage. David Cook just had a number of weird statements from Simon from comments of his smugness to the word nerd stuff to the final performance where he was knocked out. Carley personally I found the criticisms of Carley's performances to way off from her actual performance. When she performed well she was compared to Kelly Clarkson which is both odd and immediately causes people to knock her for not being Kelly. In the following weeks she had a few bad performances but even her good ones where filled with off topic critiques. Other - I think those are the four biggies but maybe you have a different opinion. Who do you got screwed over the most this season by the judging, production, etc.

I loved Randy and Paula hailing her as the "dark horse" in the early rounds of the Top 12 until they eventually jumped on the David train and started bashing the shit out of her every week despite being awesome.

I think that Carly's and Jason's critiques ranged from fair to way-too-favorable. Cookie's reviews, save for the last week were fair. Syesha was pretty consistently underrated.

The fact that Simon announced the finale a knockout caused a voting stampede for Cook. I don't think any of the rest got that screwed because I think the two Davids were the most deserving finalists. If I had to pick a #2 most screwed, it would be Carly. Simon really gave her a hard time.

I'd say that before this year, Kim Locke was the only contestant truly screwed over. This year, the judges did nothing but prove that they should be sacked and replaced with people who are more relevant. Alexandrea was "too boring" doing a song she was forced to do by Nigel. They even had the nerve to bash "her" song choice. Kady was deemed "god-awful" when she tried to be entertaining during "Magic Man." Danny was "grotesque" for also trying to lighten the mood of the season. Syesha was the "dark horse" until final 12, when she was unceremoniously forgotten in favour of the Davids' gasping and screeching. She was told she was too "cabaret" after her performance of "Fever" - one of the best performances in Idol history. Despite the fact that "Hit Me Up" was chosen for her by Nigel for the sole reason of keeping her out of the finals, "her" song choice sucked and she was "not relevant." I could go on and on. Michael was "mediocre" despite being lightyears ahead of everybody except possibly Carly in maturity, experience and artistry. I still firmly believe that the votes were rigged on IGB week so TPTB could get a "double shocker." And then there's Jason. Memory was not as much of a "trainwreck" as it could have been, plus there was no mention of the nagging fact that he was so sick that week that he needed numerous shots that morning so that he could make it through the show. And Simon, as one astute poster pointed out, came very close to telling Jason that he can't sing Bob Marley because he isn't black. Somehow, Archtard mumbling his way through a song makes him "molten lava bomb hot" but when Jason does it, it's sacrilege. The judges and Nigel need to watch this season over again for numerous reasons, but the obviously-biased comments and unfair treatment of some contestants (Michael's elimination springs to mind) are the biggest ones.

But I'd say Randy was the worse when it came to underpraising. Beginning with criticizing Brooke for not having done anything different with Love is a Battlefield. And then continuously failing to understand that good singing is possible without a billion runs and glory notes. Carly and Syesha appeared to have been screwed over because they were the few belters in the competition. But this year the judges seemed to be looking for something more - they were looking for people who knew who they were as performers. Carly couldn't get that through her thick skull and blamed it on having a higher standard all to herself. She and Syesha took way too long to even begin honing in on a personal style.

Remove this ad I'd have to say Cookie, since the only real indignation I felt all year was when they tongue-bathed Archie for being mediocre while under praising Cookie. However, the American public voiced their disapproval by showing who the real winner was. I'm over any ill feelings I had for Archuleta, but Randy and Simon disgust me 90% of the time.

I'd say Carly for finalists and Danny and Kady for semi-finalists. I'd say Jason but since he made it to F4, it's hard to say he got screwed in any way. Agreed. I think the judges were shitty to him for sure, but it didn't seem to hurt him too much.

The media did this as well because they wanted something funny to talk about rather then focus on the conversation. I would call this the Sanjaya effect. Jason didn't change during the course of the competition he went out there and had a good time and it was refreshing. Their were plenty of people who fought to stay in the comoetition, Chikeze, Ramele, Micheal and Carly all went into the top 12 fighting hard to stay and in the end America didn't want that. The thing that really bugs me about Jason was that he was the second great mellow singer we had. Most of the people who could go out there and try do relaxing music go the Stevie Wonder route and its aweful. Jason and Elliot went out there and gave people music they could listen to, that was contemporary and both got knocked out in favor of 5 singers that will not/did not translate into good artists. I doubt we will ever see or hear from Syesha again, she will join, Paris, Vonzel, Trenyce, Christina, and Latoya as the standard artist. Archie will not ignite the fever that Clay did rather he will become another Jasmine Trias a local great artist. And as for David Cook well they should try and make him a star but it's 50/50 I can easily see him run into the same problems Taylor, Justin, and Diana have with Management trying to make him into one thing rather then the other. I'm confidant that Jason will be the break out star from this year, his sound is so contmeporary that I assume his album will show up as back ground music on television shows and he will get a spot on the Lollapoluza tour next year with Regina Spektor, Adele, and Feist.

But then there were some terrible ones like Michelle, and his first one on Neil Diamond night, and his ones in the last show.. Jason can be talented at times, but he was also limited vocally... I was thrilled when he left when he did. The most screwed over person according to the David's was Syesha... Fabulous voice and performer, and she was consistently, screwed....

Paula even saying she's not good enough to make the finals was the final straw. But yes, I definitely agree with that other poster that Kim Locke was the most fucked over on final 3 night.

No, I admit they actually gave him his due on that one. But Simon telling him he had no charisma and bitching him out for his reply, among several other disrespectful things over the season is what I'm talking about. Thankfully, Cook's discerning fans have their own minds and know what they like and don't let the man-boobed wonder influence them in any way (except possibly to want to prove him wrong).

Where Archie was content to stand there for the most part and warble, she actually made her songs a performance. She looked terrific whereas Cook just wore what he had hanging around apparently as did Jason. I don't agree about Jason though. The guy really can't sing well but that never stopped Bob Dylan from becoming an icon so if Jason keeps on keeping on, he might just become the next Dylan/Arlo Guthrie of this generation. I'm not sure the guy really has the balls to the wall desire to be a standout though. He's more likely going to continue playing in smoky bars and weird little clubs and fade into obscurity once his idol fame is forgotten.

Remove this ad I have to say my 3 picks are Colton Berry, Jason Y, and Alexandrea. Colton has an okay voice, and never really got a chance because Simon told him to find a real job. Jason Y has an excellent voice, but the judges didn't get him when he sang Moon River and really didn't get it when he totally switched gears. Alexandrea just got hosed all around. Honorable mention goes to Chikieze. In much earlier seasons, the judges would be all over that guy. This year, not so much.
