I just remember I didn't like it. Although, now that I know where it was from, I agree it was a great moment. (But I'm still not a fan of the song :p) On the other hand, out of those choices PagongSchlong gave us, the only one I did remember where it was from was "Downtown". But I'm not a huge fan of that song either, so I chose Shambala (Wash Away was a very close second).

I see what you're saying, but I think the reason I never would have voted for it, is because it could have been any one of about 8 billion songs and it would have had the same effect, whereas some of the other songs were just perfect for what was being conveyed at the time. An upbeat feel-good song is not what I expected to hear in the scary mysterious hatch. Actually didn't expect to hear music at all. And damn! There's that guy from the stadium. The whole thing worked for me. And I liked the song before I heard it on Lost anyway. I'm not sure just any other song would have had the same effect, but no way to know of course. The song that fit the mood/tone of the episode best IMO was the Willie Nelson song. Can't remember the eppy name though.

I think it may have been at the end of the episode after White Rabbit. Whichever eppy it was where Jack was first moving people to the caves and Kate didn't go and they were all sad sitting around thier respective fires.

But you missed the boat on the defining moment of the series-- I don't think it was even listed as a choice-- the Locke-Jack scene about man of science versus man of faith. That's the show in a nutshell.

I remembered thinking wow that song is perfect. And yeah it was the episode where they all split up, some stayed on the beach and some moved to the caves. I think at the end it showed a split screen of Kate on the beach and Jack at the caves, the two of them sitting there looking... lost. But Locke specifically referred to himself as a Man of Faith, and Jack as a Man of Science. That conflict, seems to me, defines much of the series.
