Every single year I wonder what the hell the they are thinking with some of the numbers they pick to showcase these musicals, last year Spring Awakening was a total mess, this year Passing Strange and Xanadu really didnt pick good numbers.

With Xanadu you have a super fun, quirky, hilarious show and you pick one of the more serious numbers that doesnt highlight your lone Tony nominee Kerry Butler? Ugh. Should have went with Suddenly, Have You Never Been Mellow? or Xanadu.

Passing Strange, wtf? You pick Keys? Really? I mean its got a nice start to it, but ends up just in a bunch of screaming. Its my least favorite moment of the entire show and the only part I dont like. Should have went with Amsterdam or Arlington Hill.

How in the hell did the only thing Passing Strange won be best book? The book? Tony voters are out of their fucking mind. And yet the score was robbed, bleh.

Poor Amy Morton was robbed.

Lin Manuel Miranda made me pretty sick, wasnt a fan of that shtick he pulled at all. So glad he didnt win best actor, sooooooo glad.

YAAAY for Laura Benanti and Patti LuPone, that made me happy.

And yet again, the best musical of the season didnt win. Passing Strange will join a long list of musicals that were truly the best musicals of the season and yet didnt win the Tony, I mean I LOVE In The Heights, but PS and Xanadu are better...I mean just look at the travestys in this decade:

2008: In The Heights instead of Passing Strange
2007: Spring Awakening instead of Grey Gardens
2005: Spamalot (wtf, it was the WORST of the 4 nominated musicals) over The Light In The Piazza (or The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee)
2004: Avenue Q (which I love) over the best musical of the decade Caroline, Or Change
2002: Thoroughly Modern Millie over Urinetown (still not sure how the fuck that happened)
2000: Contact (which isnt even a fucking musical) over The Wild Party

Its not surprising though considering the 3 shows I consider to be the best of all time never won best musical either (Follies, Sunday In The Park With George, Ragtime)

I'm sick of the Tonys big time, and I am putting my long rant here because I can't stomach going to a broadway message board right now, as its a crazy frenzy of theatre queens far worse than myself, which is saying a lot.

Well, had there been more than 4 musical revivals this season, they wouldnt have been singing and dancing at the Tonys, the Grease revival is a really crap production. 4 best musical revival nomination slots, and only 4 musical revivals = automatic nomination. Had there been any other revival this season, Grease would have been out in the cold, it could have been a revival of Legs Diamond and it still would have beaten out this production of Grease.
