we can thank our lucky stars -my roommate is a reader for Dirty Dancing now. Said she wants to gauge her eyes out, followed by her ears.

can't act" and the really good talented people would get the roles. Stunt Casting is pretty sad sometimes.

Break out the champagne and the harpoons... tonight's the Tony Awards.
Finally, a gay host for TV's gayest night. I expect no less than 5 man-on-man kisses during the proceedings. Bonus points if Neil Patrick Harris, Cheyenne Jackson, and Nick Adams engage in a three-way on the stage of Radio City Music Hall.
Plus, Liza's going to be in the opening number, so you know it's going to be a glorious train wreck. |

I really don't care about anything this year. I just know that musicals made from movies are
usually obnoxious. That's why most of my votes are for Next To Normal... whatever that is.

With Billy Elliot getting as many noms as The Producers, I just can't see it not taking home most of, if not all of the awards. Here's hoping for
Dolly though.
On a related subject- I finally saw Spring Awakening today (Onstage Seating) It was AWESOME! |

Congrats on seeing Spring Awakening, bumlets1! I <3 that show so much! The only musical that's nominated that I have seen is Billy Elliot, and I saw it
in London, not in NYC. But I'm still cheering for it to win everything it can, cuz I really liked it. Plus I love how they've nominated all 3 of the
boys that share the roll as Lead Actor. That means they'll each get a statue. Cool for them.

Not a very exciting line-up of nominees this year.
The only thing I'd root for is Neil LaBute's REASONS TO BE PRETTY, but then again, I heard somewhere that Nobody cares about straight plays until they become Oscar-bait indie films. Oh well. |

Broadway went to shit years ago...look at the crap up for awards! Two musicals written by pop stars...two of the Best Musical nominees based on movies, one of
the best musical nominees not even having an original score....CRAP!!!
What is it about years ending in a "9?" Ten years ago Fosse won Best Musical and twenty years ago it was Jerome Robbins' Broadway (remember that year...the other nominated shows up were Black and Blue and Starmites....oh yeah...). This is why SuitSnob gave up being a showqueen for Survivor Sucks years ago. |

I saw West Side Story Wednesday night and I hope Karen Olivo wins for best featured actress.
The "America" number was the show stopper and I think she's fabulous!

I defy anybody who saw Billy Elliott to actually hum a song from it. The music is mediocre, but the dancing is terrific. I hope Next To Normal wins a few
awards just to keep the notion of 'original musical' alive.
ETA: Okay, maybe I can hum the chorus of 'Electricity'. But what else?

Gregoire wrote:That's because Sir Elton does not collaborate..he just writes a bunch of songs and hands them over. Asshole. If Andy Blakenbueler wins for Best Choreography I wonder how the HD camera will handle his chin. BTW-He is the Biggest Closet Case in New York City, and that is saying a LOT!!! |

Unfortunately, living in Kentucky, I haven't seen any of the nominees. :-( I have to wait until they tour to Louisville or Cincinatti. I think the only
other time multiple performers shared a nomination was when Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner shared a best actress nomination as Siamese Twins in Sideshow.

I actually kinda hope that Constantine wins, just to see the sheer sweaty doucheyness of him accepting a Tony award. The whole year is a joke, why not go with
a joke award.
I would enjoy it if Raul Esparza won for a straight play after getting screwed out of a Tony for his musical work. He so should've won the year David Hyde Pierce did for Curtains. I'm not even a big Raul fan but I think Company was his best performance ever. Made a not-great staging (sorry, I'm over the instruments onstage thing) work because of the real acting in song. |

My god..which of those kids playing Billy Elliot is the most effeminate? That's is what was good about the movie...he was such a real kid. And what was
with that flying shit?
Whose idea was it to put NPH in Sharkskin? Yuck. Was anyone else worried Liza was going to stumble into the pit out of sheer awkwardness? |
