Bob Schultz is happy he's okay after a freak accident Tuesday sent him to the emergency room. "Pulled into Sonic got something cold, got a slushee." He continued home, when something went wrong.

"It hit me like a ton of bricks and I sit that drink down and by then I knew I was going to pass out." That's when the car he was driving jumped the curb. You can still see the tire marks. The car hit the front porch of as home damaging bricks.

When Schultz woke up he had no idea what happened, and was taken to the hospital. "I've had a history of heart problems so that's what they were concerned about turned out it had nothing to do with that."

What makes this story so unusual is what the doctor at the ER told Schultz, that he had suffered from a chest freeze, similar to that of a brain freeze, you know when you take a drink of something cold too fast."

"Your blood pressure drops and then you get light headed and you go out. He said it's not uncommon, and I've never heard of it either, but he wasn't shocked by it all."

While Schultz doesn't think he'll be drinking slushees anytime soon. "At least not while we're driving and I like the little devils too." He says he has learned a valuable lesson. "Don't drink too fast, don't drink and drive, especially don't drink cold."

A brain freeze is your body overacting to cold. It freezes the cluster of nerves and a sudden burst of warmth hits the brain. Other than eating slowly, the best way to reduce a brain freeze is to place your tongue on the roof of your mouth to warm it up.
