Buffy the Vampire Slayer was nominated for 14 Emmys during its seven year run, including ones for direction, writing and cinematography (but not acting).

Gregoire wrote: That's actually not too shabby for Buffy, which had to deal with being on the WB and UPN. That was probably the most successful show in terms of Emmys.
The only show to get an acting nod was Everwood, which was for James Earl Jones in the guest acting category.

I just watched the entire season of Dexter (2) and it was excellent! Also 'Damages' (another 2 day withdrawel for the
good!). Those two series are both outstanding. I could list a number of actors from both shows who deserve to be nominated. Also, the writing, directing etc...
My fav. two series of the year.

Gregoire wrote: Yeah, but I guess I was more pissed awf at the time for not seeing it nominated as best drama or even comedy, plus no supporting actor/actress nods. Let's face it: Sarah Michelle Gellar could be wooden at times, but could also do things like this, which is easy, but selling it, which is hard, ain't:
This being said, I remember being frustrated by the Emmys at the time -- this might've been the period when Picket Fences was running the table, despite no one watching that show -- that they so completely ignored the revolution being conducted under Whedon's watch. A sop. That's all I wanted. But yeah, The Wire is being mistreated even worse. I've seen only season 4, and know the merits of the show. My view? It isn't being filmed in California, Vancouver, Wilmington, or any other locale familiar to the Academy. Baltimore? That's alien territory for the average Academy voter. I think Homicide: Life on the Streets, which was awesome, suffered the same effect. And I suspect that the average Academy voters are too old and out of touch to watch anything on television that will challenge them. Enough. Not to harp on things myself, but can anybody explain why the Academy hates Buffy/HIMYM Alyson Hannigan so much? |

The problem with the Wire, according to those who are the panels, is it's really intricate and hard to follow if you've never watched it before. I
don't know how much I agree (though the finale would have had a greater effect on someone who watched the series or at least a few episodes). If that is
the case, the best chance for a nom was season 1 with the pilot because you didn't need to know anything to appreciate that.
I doubt it will be nominated but it's a damn shame. Also Michael K. Williams - deserved to be on this list almost every year. |

Here's hoping Mary McDonnell gets a nom for BSG. The fact that Tricia Helfer is not on these lists is a frakking tragedy. |

Also hurting Buffy's chances back then -- was it a comedy or a drama? I would classify it drama, but it has a lighter touch than Desperate Housewives, and that's considered a comedy. |

It is a crime against all good television if "The Body" wasn't nominated for anything. Everything about that episode was perfection; the directing, writing, and acting (especially Allyson and Emma.) Whenever I watch any episode of Buffy that has Willow crying, I still break down like an 8 y/o girl, lol! |

loveski wrote: That's the problem with awards shows in general nowadays. Everything is becoming so serialized nowadays that you either only reward shows that are still formulaic (such as House, CSI, and I assume the shit known as Boston Legal) or you have to recognize an entire season's worth of excellence, not one particular episode (which is a bullshit determinant anyways. Shows shouldn't be punished for bad episode selection). bluesboi wrote: All that "frakking" bullshit is why I stopped watching the show after 3 episodes. I don't reward creativity for getting around cursing.
Either don't say fuck, or bleep it out. Don't make up some shit word like "frak".

If that is the case, the best chance for a nom was season 1 with the pilot because you didn't need to know anything to appreciate that. And unfortunately, what made the pilot for The Wire so brilliant was that it toyed with conventions and police drama cliches before plunging into the darkness. Those that would be on a panel that had solely seen the pilot couldn't appreciate it as much because they would see something sorta-formulaic. Ugh. Why not just let television critics do the nominations? At least they see everything. |

I know it's delayed, but I wanted to join the rage for Yunjin Kim's lack of a nomination for LOST. She was brilliant in both the finale and her episode
this season. GRRR!!!
And could somebody explain to me why Grey's Anatomy has ever been nominated for anything? Perhaps it's because I'm a dude who tends to have bad associations with hospitals, but the very little bit of the show I've seen didn't offer anything remotely interesting let alone creative. And WTF is with Boston Legal being on so many of these lists? That show should be C A N C E L L E D !!! |
