Could the acting and writing be any worse on this show?

What's with the haircut on Ben (the geek boyfriend)? Looks like a bad 80's doo.
Amy's sister (Ashley) owns that slut look. Love it. Why is it that Amy's two BFF's and Ben's two BFF's entire lives seem to revolve around Amy/Ben? Lame. |

Ok, I do love that the little sis isn't skinny and has her fat sticking out under those short shirts. Totally realistic

Just when I think it can't get worse it does.
Oh, and I'm still watching. Waiting for the big reveal. Not sure why they have to spoil the entire season in the previews. I bet she's going to go from skinny to huge in one episode. Minuteman was still funny though. |

American Teenager is getting better. The only characters that really annoy me are:
Grace's dad - Jon Schnieder was so cool as Bo Duke, but nowadays he's typecast as a smothering, self-righteous father (this role and in Smallville) Ben Boykewich - don't like his Bob Sagat haircut, his constant proclamations of love for a girl he's know 2 weeks, his retarded ideas for dates (the big picnic basket) Otherwise, this show is good to go |

I hate Ben. I find him terribly creepy and I don't know why Amy continues to date him. The girls playing Amy and Ashley are my favorite. I wish
the show would focus more on that family dynamic than on some of the other characters. And I wish they would fire Brenda Hampton and get writers that can
actually compose a decent script. She relies too much on religion and sex though the most recent episode was better. I also dislike her using so many actors
that used to be on 7th Heaven. Aunt Julie is a doctor...whaaatt?!
And the ratings for "The Secret Life..." are incredible. This show will probably stick around for awhile. |

I'm interested to see where they're going to go with the whole baby thing. Most shows that ever done anything with teen pregnancy make it a one
episode deal with some character we never hear from again. Movies (such as Saved) end with the child being born. If the show goes past season 1, I'll be
interested to see what they're going to do.

Ben is creepy as hell. Srsly, going all OMG MARRY ME PLS after knowing her for like two weeks, lol wat. He just kind of reeks of the 'stalker' vibe to
me. I like his Asian BFFs tho.
Jack is a bit of a douche and Grace reminds me far too much of the cheery little Christian girls that tried to convert me back in high school, but the rest are kind of okay. I think Amy's sister is my favorite :P ...I think the only reason I'm enjoying this show is because it's such a trainwreck. |

I had no idea the ratings for this show were as good as they are. I'm loving it , but I hate how Aunt Julie is the doctor. that's obnoxious.
I love the little sister and Amy together, but yes Ben is incredibly creepy. I really am liking the show to be honest, hahaha. I'm glad she finally tells next week, because I was starting to get like wtf? with that whole thing. I also thought it was cool how it tied in Adrian to everyone else by having her mom sleep with Amy's dad. I'm glad it's picking up speed, and I want to punch amy's 2 bffs. |

Moderator's note: the next time one of you want to talk about Minuteman, start a new thread.
I't's time to make this thread American Teenager-only. Ah the perils of multiple show threads... Nice to see that American Teenager is a hit, though. An unexpected surprise from our friends at ABC, I bet. |

This show has promise, it's just that the writing is so bad and they're still focusing on evil evil sex as the center of every episode. It needs to be
more about teen life with less of the judgmental lectures. If they could fix the writing it could be a good show.

Anyone watch the episode with the big reveal? I wanted to pop Grace a new one for storming the clinic. Psycho bitch. I wanted Amy to get the abortion then and
there to piss off the freak. It's Amy's decision...no one else's. The one thing I really dislike about all of this is how quickly the news
traveled. I don't think it would get around that fast especially since she wasn't really showing until this week. I also wish they'd write out the
dad. The show would be much more interesting with Molly Ringwald as a single parent. I loved Ashley's phone call with Madison. She's someone I'd
like to bop as well. Ben is creepy as fuck and I don't know why anyone else can't see this on that show. I wish he'd get run over by a car.

I do like this show, but I don't know if I'm creeped out more by Ben or his father!!!
WTF is with him showing up at the school and knowing his son was talking to the counsler about the girl? And he's okay with all of this and will talk to the girls parents??? And I was really creeped out with the message Ben left Amy about how 75 years later they will still be together. I have a 16 year old, and I know teens can be dramatic, but even she says all her friends see him as a freaky stalker, and that teens don't talk this way!! they really need to go a different direction with him. And I agree, a different hair cut!! |

I'm glad the parents finally know. I was getting sick and tired of "Did you tell your parents, oh my god, my parents can't fin out" every
fucking week. Is it wrong that I hope Grace sleeps with Ricky and gets pregnant herself?
I also love the end when Molly Ringwald is asking her what her biggest worries are. I get the "will it hurt" question and that she's worried people will say things to her sister, but shouldn't "how am I going to raise a baby at 15" be at the top of the list? |

to that is almost scarier then the answer of whether it hurts to give birth or not. And I think Amy's parents need to file a suit against the
pediatricians. No way the news should have gotten around as fast as it did.
