Man rips head from Hitler wax figure in Berlin Sat Jul 5, 9:09 AM ET BERLIN (Reuters) - A man tore the head from a controversial waxwork figure of Adolf Hitler on the opening day of Berlin's Madame Tussauds museum on Saturday, police said. Just minutes after the museum opened, the 41-year-old German man pushed aside two security men guarding the exhibit. "Then he went over to the figure and ripped off the head," a police spokesman said. The man tore off the head in protest at the exhibit, the spokesman added. The police were alerted and arrested the man, who did not resist. He was being investigated for assault and damaging property.

Imagine if they opened one in NYC with a wax statue of Osama bin Laden. The Holocaust (as is the Munich Olympic debacle) is still a very raw subject to discuss in Germany. I remember my travel agent many years ago recommending that I not even mention it during my time spent in Germany. It is still a huge national embarrassment to the Germans.

We had a German intern at our company once and when we asked he about the holocaust she got very quiet and solemn. She said that they learn about it in school but that they are taught it was a very bad time for their country. The only thing we can equate it to is slavery, I suppose, but I think the holocaust was way worse.
