Yeah, allowing 14 year olds in some Olympic events but not in gymnastics is dumb.
I'll bet they'll lower the age limit in gymnastics by the next Olympics.

They might change the scoring system back too, after all the trouble it caused this year.

Supposedly the young ones are more limber and fearless, a big advantage when you are tumbling on a 4 inch beam. I really don't care if they are under 16, but it should be apples and apples. |

Exactly. Let's not forget that when Nadia Comaneci put up all those perfect 10.0's, she was 14.
The IOC made a collective determination that the girls of that era were being put under too much pressure for that age, thus the 16 age entry level, which should be collectively enforced. BTW, before Vent shows up again, it'd be impossible to fake an age in the USA what with the sheer amount of birth announcements in newspapers, school records of when the children started first grade, etc. It's also important to remember that the Chinese girls, underage or not, had nothing to do with the US collapse at the end of the team event. They certainly earned the win. Dammit I miss the Olympics. That was a GREAT two weeks. |

Carboys Desire wrote: It won't happen. Now that the Olympics are over, they aren't even going to pretend to look into it. And even if the girls all eventually say they weren't old enough, they probably still won't do anything. A Chinese gymnast from a previous Olympics (maybe Athens? Can't remember) came forward later on and said she was only 14 at the time, and they did nothing about it. |

Misty May and Kerri Walsh lost in the finals in Cincinnati, whoa. Their first loss in 112 matches, crazy. The winning streak is over.

How is it that you're so anti-American yet you're always bitching about a lack of presumably, blonde, blue-eyed gay white men (who would never give you
the time of day) in reality shows to fantasize over?

Johnny Powers wrote:Who'd they lose to? Was it on TV? I could sense from the post-Olympics interviews that their heads are no longer in the game. They're both looking forward to making babies and raising little vollyeball players. This Stephanie Pohl -- I've seen her name come up. I don't get it. I saw her playing in a match and thought she's a tetch haggard. Post pix should you care to dispute this. |

Piranhahaha wrote:They lost to those two other bitches, Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branaghs. The match lasted 1 hr 45 minutes which is an eternity in rally style beach volleyball, and the score was 21-19, 10-21, 25-23. May/Walsh were a couple of bad breaks in both the first and third set from winning it. They did dominate the second set like nobody's business. This isn't too bad considering they just came off the Olympic high and also with Misty prepping for DWTS.

Yeesh. Branagh and Youngs had better "come correct" if they're ineriting the crown, because their showing in Beijing was not hot.

I hate Elaine Youngs. She's an arrogant asshole of the highest order.
Oh well; May and Walsh will just have to start over with their winning streak. |

BobBob77 wrote:I don't think they will change it since the reason why they changed it was the 2004 Olympics had a lot of scoring controversies as well. Its really not the scoring system that's at fault, its the judges. I actually like the scoring system since it encourages difficult routines, which will help push the sport to a newer level since gymnasts will be increasing the difficulty points after seeing how it benefited a lot of gymnasts during the Olympics. I don't think it'll ever happen, but I'd like for the judges to have some way of providing information on how they came up with their execution scores (e.g. boxscore). |
