Clint will get a nomination because it's technically his last acting role. He says now. Why would he go on on this note, as a tight ass racist neighbor?

I'm a little upset that the frontrunners seem to be CCBB and Slumdog - there are far more superior films. Ugh, the more praise Slumdog is getting, the
more agitated I get. It's a good movie, yes - very feel-good, but the best? Really?
Milk was so damn well done. So fucking phenomenal. I also think Rachel Getting Married was terrific. Revolutionary Road was good but so goddamn heavy, I think it'd be a nice surprise if included in the top 5 Best Pic noms. |

The Producer Guild Noms come out Monday. Rachel Getting Married would very much be back in the Best Picture race if it is among one of the 5 films nominated.

Doubt was disappointing to me - anyone else? It just didn't succeed as much as I, or I feel even it, was hoping to. And I'm still a little iffy on
Streep's performance. Hoffman was great though, but Viola Davis rocked that shit sideways.
Probably the best pics I've seen so far this year are, in order, Milk, Rachel Getting Married, and TDK. Revolutionary Road is up there for me as well, though I know it's a bit polarizing. Oh, and The Wrestler was also great. OH! And Frost/Nixon. Including Frost/Nixon in my best-of...anyone else seen it yet? I thought it was AMAZING. Really well done.

Just saw Frost/Nixon. I don't know that it's terribly award worthy (maybe adapted screenplay) but it's a damn good movie, absolutely riveting with great performances. Which one should I watch next? Slumdog? Benjamin Buttocks? I can't decide. |

I think the Spirit Awards generally kick the Academy Awards ass anyway.
Watched Towel head last night, wow was that fucking disturbing. I felt like i'd been sucker-punched. Alan Ball sure knows how to do provocative and uncomfortable.

I'm too cheap to bay $12.50 for a movie ticket for all the movies I want to see so I'm watching them all online on illegal chinese websites lol
I'm 40 minutes into Benjamin Button and I'm already fucking bored. Question: For the Slumdog movie, do you really need to read the questions they ask on the screen? The video I'm watching isn't good quality enough to see that small ass fucking print. |

I personally loved Slumdog M. and felt Benj. Button was over-rated. I still don't think I've 'seen' the best movie and I'm hoping it will
be 'Revolutionary Road' (from the clips I've seen , it is my kind of movie)....WALL EEEEE. must rent this.

For the Slumdog movie, do you really need to read the questions they ask on the screen? The video I'm watching isn't good quality enough to see that small ass fucking print. They're read to you...:-\ Also, did the SAG nominations happen yesterday or earlier? I saw them in the paper last night. I hate to say this, but maybe I'll feel differently when I see Revolutionary Road, but as of RIGHT THIS MOMENT, I'm more hyped about Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married than Kate Winslet, though I would prefer Winslet to win any awards based on it's about time. And I kinda would love Amy Adams to win for Doubt as well... The SAGS do that weird "best ensemble" thing that really should skew that category towards Doubt, because frankly, it has the best ensemble. There are no weak links, whereas I've heard a few people were bugged by someone in Milk and there were a few duds in Slumdog. |

Slumdog Millionaire is my favorite movie of the year with any shot of winning. Milk is in my ten best too. Benjamin Button is good but is more a stunt than a
film. Although Kate Winslet is way way overdue for an Oscar, unfortunately for her, this is Penelope Cruz's year in the supporting category, and frankly,
it would be amazing is Meryl won for Doubt.

I've seen Milk, Ben Button, Doubt and The Reader in the last couple of weeks.
My favo so far has been The Reader. Absolutely amazing performances from Winslet and the young boy (Ralph Fiennes was meh). I think Winslet is going to regret going with Rev Road as her Leading Actress choice. I think Meryl is going to edge her out and Cruz may beat her in Sup. Actress. If she had gone with the Reader as her Lead Actress choice, I think she'd have it in the bag. Although, I'm not totally sold on Cruz winning yet. I hear she's great in VCB, but there hasn't been a huge amount of buzz about the movie yet IMO. I think it's conceivable she may not win. However, I don't think that means Winslet will win either. I'd expect Amy Adams or Viola Davis to step in instead. Maybe Tomei, though I doubt it. Henson should just be happy to be nominated. Ben Button felt like watching a less funny Forest Gump. There were good parts of it, and I didn't hate it, but it didn't excite me. I loved Doubt. Thought it was really well acted. I'm pretty familiar with alot of Catholic stuff and was remembering stories my parents told me of nuns and stuff, so I don't agree with critics who say Streep over-acted... she fit right in with my parents' recollections! Amy Adams is a personal favo of mine, but I don't know that she deserves the Oscar here. PSH will probably not win over Ledger. I think the only one that can beat him now is Josh Brolin. Which brings me to Milk. This was really good. I liked Sean Penn a great deal and thought the ensemble was great. I think Franco and Brolin are more worthy of supporting nods, and I don't really get why Hirsch is being pimped so much (making up for the snub from Into the Wild?) Brolin could win more as recognition for a good five years of work, though I'm not sure this performance was his best ever or anything. But it was still solid. I think Penn will win, but Eastwood may edge him out. I don't see Langella or Rourke winning. |

PGA noms:
Slumdog Millionaire Frost/Nixon The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Milk The Dark Knight Predictable. But PGA usually goes 4/5, so this will not be the final lineup. I think BAFTA can shake this race up. I think the race for BP is definitely between Slumdog and Ben. Button. One is a great movie, one is pure crap. Please make sure you spread positive WOM for Slumdog. Hopefully after Oscar noms are announced, it will do stronger at the BO.

In a faceoff between Slumdog and Benjamin Button, neither will win Best Picture will go to Milk for snubbing Brokeback Mountain. That's how awards work!

I wonder why we aren't even discussing Dark Knight here. It really was one of only 2 movies, for me, that delivered everything it set out to do. Milk
being the other movie.
There were so many great performances in DK and the special effects and character developments were spot on. I guess because it is a 'superhero' or a science fiction movie, this gives it less validity. But I think it is definitely worthy of top 5 for 2008 and deserving a best picture nomination. By the way, anyone see Man on Wire?...This movie is one of the highest rated and expected to take the documentary award. Is it worth the viewing?? I downloaded it and forgot it would be full of subtitles and can't figure out how to add them..damn. |
