Though it'd be a very deserved win in my opinion; I think Milk was leagues better than Slumdog and Ben Button both in overall quality and filmmaking, acting, etc. I'd personally love a Milk upset. |

I've seen Milk, Doubt, Slumdog, Rachel Getting Married, Ben. Button, and Frost/Nixon. Hopefully seeing The Reader/The Wrestler/ Rev. Road sometime soon.
For Milk, I loved Sean Penn, but I really wasn't THAT blown away by it. Penn should probably win Best Actor, but other than that, I thought the movie was just a really good movie, but it never became anything more than a by-the-numbers biopic. I also thought Brolin sucked more than Diego Luna. That drunken scene was painful to watch for me. I really enjoyed Doubt, and I enjoyed the battle royal of acting that came with it, but the movie itself was again good, but not great. It was super intriguing though, but I've seen it on stage and it works so much better as a stage show. The only person that should win an award though is Davis, superb. Rachel Getting Married was entertaining but dragged way too much at the end for me to consider it for BP. Although Hathaway finally proved to me that she can act, and I was extremely impressed with her. Ben. Button bored the shit out of me. It was interesting, but really way too long and just flat. I felt like I was watching a report. It was all superficial. I don't actually think anything/one should be nominated other than the make-up artist. Frost/Nixon was an amazing film, but something was missing or off. I think it might have been the weird reality show/documentary angle they tried to pull at the beginning but it never really worked and then they didn't commit to it. I'm not sure if that was in the stage version, although it seems it may have been. Langella (sp?) was just spell-binding, however I was more impressed with Penn. I know many of you don't think Slumdog was that good, but I was mesmerized by it. Then again I saw it almost a month ago, so it wasn't that hyped up. I just sat in aw the whole time. I know the story is so crazy that it is almost unbelievable, but I really didn't care. I thought the acting was great, not award worthy, but great none the less. I really liked Little Miss Sunshine, but I thought Juno was just okay. I really think this is finally the indie movie that deserves it. So for me so far this season: Slumdog Millionaire Milk Frost/Nixon Doubt The Dark Knight Rachel Getting Married Ben. Button.

Ben Button was basically Gump 2, and though it had some amazing moments, overall it was not exciting at all.
Milk was awesome. Yes it is by the numbers; AND it does this amazingly well. It shows sides of Milk that are less than noble, does not make too much of a monster of the villain, and just felt real and "lived in." It captured a movement as much as it captured the man. Franco was awesome, though he will not be nominated because his acting was in the face and not in the emoting. Slumdog was good, but far from great. The child actors were amazing. Many of the scenes showing India were compelling. The music deserves the Oscar. The Millionaire aspect is half-baked, though; and for a movie with such a high concept, is way to paint by numbers. Also, it is close to Monster's Ball in terms of movies that try TOO hard to show how roug life can be for certain people. I would not have been surprised if a Grandmother had surfaced out of nowhere, only to be raped, followed by the main character's dog being skewered, cooked in a tandoor, and served to tourists. |

The more I hear about Slumdog the less I want to see it. The opposite is true for all the others, even Button. I am looking forward to Kate's movies most,
based on what I've read.

The Producers Guild Noms came out today
The 5 they choose for Picture of the year BB Slumdog Frost/Nixon Milk The Dark Knight I am gonna go out on a limb and say either Milk or Frost/Nixon get's the Dreamgirls/Walk The Line MOR paint by numbers Oscar BP Biopic snub despite getting all the necessary precursor guild support. Since the Prodcers Guild never goes 5/5 with the Oscar's there is likely a "shock" Wall E ,Happy Go Lucky or Rachel Getting Married Best Picture nomination to fill in the token Light Comedy or Quirky Indie comedy slot . |

I could see Milk being the shocking snub this year, unfortunately.
I wouldn't be surprised if they nominate both Wall-E and The Dark Knight. They need ratings this year. |

Despite Milk being the best picture this year* I am 100% certain it will not win.
However, if it doesn't even get nominated, I will break shit at my house. Then I will go next door and break shit at my neighbor's house. Then I will go break shit all over town. *I still need to see slumdog, benjamin buttocks. |

So, going into it I had impossible expectations. In the end, I found it worth watching, but I was underwhelmed really. There is a particular device in the film, that I somewhat liked at first... but after a while I just found it pretentious and annoying. You'll know what I mean. But yeah, see it. I had never heard of the event itself and it really is amazing. |

Is Benjamin Button even worth watching? I've heard varying degrees of comments, but for the most part it seems to be structured well and isn't an actually good movie. Just want to know if it's worth investing any time in... |

It's worth watching, but it's nowhere near as good as some of the other Best Picture contenders this year.
But it has all of the ingredients the Academy looks for - it's nearly 3 hours long, it's visually impressive, and it deals with "big important themes". |

Milk has a great shot, people. It's really a two-way race between that and Slumdog Millionaire. Everything else falls short when you look at the critical
reviews/hype-o-meter. If Rachel Getting Married snags a nomination, I'd give it like a 5% chance though based on absolute love from some critics.
Otherwise, it's clearly a two-way race.
And I'll be shocked if Benjamin Button gets nominated for Best Picture. It was on like nobody's year-end top ten lists...Slumdog/Milk are the locks with Frost/Nixon faring well given the talent involved. That leaves two open slots. |

Benjamin Button is the "Supposed to vote for it" choice this year.
Milk has been curiously out of a lot of the hype, and was snubbed by the GGs for Picture. You just never know. At this point in time, however, I think there is no stopping a Slumdog win. Yes there is backlash, but now there is backlash to the backlash. Some people obviously want to go the wire for this one. |

If it took place in like...lord of the rings or something, that wouldn't seem so out of place. I dunno, I personally LOVED it and totally was into it the entire time. Definitely worth watching if you ask me. |

Good, but didn't blow me away (although....I literally had a pit in my stomach when they showed the pics of him lying down on the rope between the towers.) Dear Zachary and Trouble the Water are both better documentaries. However.....WHEN "Man on Wire" wins the Oscar, I still will be pleased, because it is a departure from Holocaust/Iraq/Bullshit documentaries that they have always favored in recent memory. It will be a nice and different choice. |
