And if she brings her field hockey clothes/equipment in a non clear bag, it must be dropped off in a special room where it will be locked up until after school.
Is this common in public schools?

So my kid is starting high school this year and they are only allowed to carry their books in clear backpacks.

It's a security measure to ensure children are not bringing weapons to school.
There's a couple schools here that outlawed back packs of any kind. I don't drive in those areas. |

I'm sure the girls will enjoy having everyone see the tampons and such they carry in their backpacks/purses.

I don't know about purses. I got a letter telling me about the dress code/sports equipment and the clear backpacks. Purses/handbags were not mentioned.
We are going Monday morning to meet her guidance counselor and to select her classes. I will ask. I just wondered if this is being done in other parts of the country. Where do you even buy a clear backpack?? |

They phased out the lockers here in the late 90's and sent home a set of books for the kids for homework and had a set in the classroom so they did not
have to carry the books, however, they could still carry backpacks and i think they still can, course they still have to carry notebooks and writing utensils.
The backpacks were of the normal sort.
Feel sorry for the girls that don't use tampons. Does this mean the girls can't even carry a purse? I'm happy my son is done with all that! |

Are they making the girls wear clear clothes yet?
If so, get your kid out of the school....the Principal is probably a sicko. |

A number of years ago a neighboring town instituted this policy in their public schools. I haven't heard much about it since then.

^ thanks for that. E-bay seems to be a popular spot for them
And this isn't some inner city school in a crime ridden area, so I'm not sure wth they are doing. |

Have there even been any instances of kids bringing weapons (plastic sporks are the devils work) to school?
These look like tons of fun to carry home in 90 degree weather

We surveyed a hundred people. What's a sign your kid should switch schools?

Apparently they are insuring that they do NOT become an inner city school in a crime ridden area. Or they are wary of terrorists.

This will be her first year at this school. No weapons were brought to this school, that I know about. Or that made the news.
