Give them books to take home (if they need it) and let them use a computer at school. If the kid has a dependable computer at home and doesn't need the book think of how many trees you will be saving.

She was going through a backpack every few weeks. No way would a clear plastic bag last a week with all of her books. I weighed it once, and it was over 30 pounds. Just in textbooks. Her school doesn't have loaners for home use. I guess her school is too busy building foot ball stadium bleachers to worry about books.

And we had to carry our books in our arms from class to class, but we did have lockers.

Not all kids have computers at home, and schools don't have a computer for each student. I do like the tree saving. They should make books on little chips that you could insert in on folder/book and change the computer chip for different books. Has anything thing like that been invented, it would save paper and there would be no more heavy books to lug, just one light folder/book thing and tiny book chips.

Are you aware we NEED oxygen to survive and the more trees cut down, grassy meadows covered in asphalt reduce the amount of oxygen in the world??? Are you aware it takes a lot of energy to make trees into paper??? From the heavy equipment trucks used to cut them and transport them, (that produce toxic gas like obamas ciggarettes produce), to the milling and then the paper factories, boy do they produce some nice stinky healthy gas? Both my kids have had their backpacks since 3 yr old preschool, so that means my son has had his for 9 years, my daughter for 7. Seriously, they go through the wash and everything. Now, it's become kinda a challenge to see if they can make it through high school with it. We have had the clear ones to take on vacation and they are crap. I liked the see through factor for finding stuff easy, and I certainly don't care if my mooncup products are visible. I've weighed my kids' backpacks, too. I let principal know, and she was pretty good about getting the teachers to back off the amount sent home. We can't have the wheeled ones at our school.
