I like Anna Paquin's earnest approach to Sookie. She centers the series. Give her some credit -- this is not easy to do, and a lesser actress would be chewing up the scenery in this role.
She's not unlike SMG using Buffy to center BtVS -- and then let the whacko sidekicks run the show. Until it's time to strike, acting chops-wise.

He's no Spike, that's fer sure, but he is slightly more interesting than good Angel in the early days.
Maybe that's why I'm not alone in fixating on Maryann. Or those of you with Lafayette for that matter. Eric even.
It's going to be the Scoobies and Big Bads that illuminate this series, and Sookie as portrayed is spot on for making that happen.
