7. Mark Sloan/"McSteamy"
McSteamy is McDreamy's much hotter and much more interesting best friend who joined the surgical team in season three. His attitude toward teaching the interns is refreshingly different than that of most of the teachers (especially Derek.) Rather than ask them questions about the patients, he sends his interns to get him coffee and/or do laundry for him . Mark is also a notorious man-whore who sleeps with just about anyone, still, it's interesting because you get the idea he does that because he is lonely for real companionship (well, I do anyway.) And despite his jerkiness, he actually does care about his best friend (why? I don't know, but he does.) He also has a unique field in plastic surgery which gives us some interesting cases.




6. Cristina Yang
Cristina just misses out on the top five, but she's a great character all around. The most ambitious and hard-working of the interns, she is often considered to have the most potential of the group. Her snarky comments add a lot to the show as does her struggle to be more social and less guarded especially with her boyfriend, Burke. A lot of people consider her a "robot," but she clearly isn't. Like Bailey, she seems to become more emotional and "human" as the show goes on. I also sort of like her friendship with Meredith because when she is around, Meredith seems slightly more interesting.




5. Preston Burke
First and foremost, I think Burke is definitely the sexiest guy on the show. Sorry, McDreamy, but not only is Burke (arguably) a better doctor than you, he's also waaaay dreamier! What's not to like about Burke? He's a great boyfriend to Cristina: warm, friendly and generous. He's a good doctor who has integrity and he gets added bonus points simply for the fact that he didn't like Derek during the first and part of the second season. He can, however, be a little clingly and gets frustrated with Cristina, but I see that more as a extrovert-not-understanding-the-introvert type thing and I don't blame him for getting frustrated. Anyway, sorry Alffmix




4. Callie Torres
Callie's awsome because she's above all the high-school type dramatic bullstit that sometimes occurs at Seattle Grace (looking at you, Izzie). However, once she and George get together, she unfortunately has to deal with his immature friends hating on her. You just can't help feeling bad for her, because you just know she was the type who didn't fit in in high school and now she has to deal with it all over again (and with interns no less - and she's a resident! How much would that suck?) Anyway, Callie is pretty badass and has an attitude like she doesn't care what people think of her (although, obviously she does.) She mostly does her own thing and keeps to herself, but with people she really likes, she's helpful and friendly. Watching her figure out her feelings for Erica was also interesting (and will continue to be so) and I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes. She's the only character in orthopedic surgery also, which is a fairly interesting field.
