You really wouldn't.
The thing about earthquakes is...once you realize what is happening, it's over.

I am in mid wilshire/Hollywood. My job has been so hateful lately that I would welcome death but apparently my staff still wants to live.

As of 12:03 p.m. local time, 16 aftershocks had been recorded, ranging from 1.4 to 3.8 in magnitude, according to the USGS Web site.
Has anyone felt any of those? |

It would have hit San Francisco if that were the case.
I'm near Culver City, and other than my coworkers spazzing, we weren't asked to leave at all. |

5.8 on the Richter Scale.I've lived in cities up and down Cali from San Diego to San Francisco. All I have to say about a 5.8 is BFD. The funny thing is that this kind of almost-non-story freaks the shit out of people who live in areas where they have hurricane and tornado SEASONS! Seasons, as in part of every year, you know they're getting close and they'll ALWAYS fuck up something. Here on the Left Coast we get a little giggle once in a great while and they hardly ever do anything. But hey, you stay over there and watch the news for a few months out of every year hoping that your house isn't demolished and/or your family doesn't go down for the dirt nap. |

I felt the first big 3.8 aftershock.
after that, not much. I agree with you, CP. |

How long did today's quake last?
Agree about prefering earthquakes to other types of nature-caused disasters. |

I felt the rolling for about 20 seconds, plus a bit more for the aftershock. It was somewhat long for a quake. I much prefer these to the ones that feel like
they're coming from the side and are really violent. this one was like floating on the ocean.
