25 - Beck





Beck Hansen emerged in 1994 with the huge hit "Loser" a song that is so recognizable even to this day. While the song was really good, I remember back then thinking this guy would inevitably (sp?) become a one-hit wonder. A couple of years later, Beck proved me wrong. His album Odelay made a permanent mark on the alternative music scene and got nommed at the Grammys (Can't remember if he won). Beck has always been very well-known throughout his career despite being shunned by mainstream radio probably due to the fact that his music was just too freaky. The reason I like Beck so much is that he never copied anyone nor will anyone ever copy him. The man had his own style both lyrics and music wise. It was usually up-tempo, groovy, bluesy, funky, hip-hoppy but always 100% weird.

24 - Gwen Stefani (No doubt)





Not since Blondie has the world of pop rock been taking by storm by a blonde bombshell. Ironically, Gwen was pratically coherced to join No Doubt by her brother who played keyboards for the band at the time. Little did the band ever suspect how much their popularity would explode with Gwen joining them. In 1997, their album Tragic Kingdom slaughtered the charts and Gwen became one of the biggest female icons of 90's rock. The 2000 era was also good for the band with their self-titled album, and then Gwen decided to go on solo where she became a full fledge successful pop star. On one hand, it sucks because No Doubt fans want her in the band not as a pop artist. Though on the other hand we much prefer having Gwen dominating the pop world than the Britneys and the Rihannas. Though there have been rumors of Gwen hooking up with No Doubt again, but those rumors have started around 2003 and we're still waiting.
