I don't think it's possible to kill hostas. Just dig it up, split it if it's gotten too big and stick the new part in the ground.

you can't kill those things, they're the herpes of the garden. if it's still warm where you are, make sure you water them every day until it gets
cool.

Mine made flowers this year! Last year they didn't, maybe because they were pissed off that I moved them all. I didn't know they could flower, they
just came up out of the ground a few months after we moved in.
