Subject: Hurricane Ike Impact Fri 11 AM Update NWS Austin/San Antonio 091208

All,

Hurricane Ike late Friday morning continued to move toward the upper Texas coast and the official forecast track continues to bring Ike

onshore near Galveston. The official track at 10 am was actually shifted ever so slightly to the west which would bring Hurricane Ike

directly over Galveston Island and into the city of Houston.

For our area of South Central Texas, a Tropical Storm Wind Warning is in effect from 7 pm this evening to 7 pm Saturday for Fayette, Lavaca,

Dewitt, Lee, Bastrop and Gonzales counties with tropical force winds expected to begin spreading into these counties this evening with wind

gusts of 50 to 70 mph during the day on Saturday. Counties further inland up to near Interstate 35 including the cities of Austin and San

Antonio can expect winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph.

Rainfall totals from tonight through Saturday night will average from 3 to 6 inches across the eastern counties of South Central Texas and 1 to

4 inches for counties along and to the east of I-35. Rainfall totals will decrease for the western sections of South Central Texas with

amounts from 1/2 to 1 inch. Localized flash flooding is possible over the areas east of the I-35 corridor.

The tropical force winds across eastern counties could cause minor damage to mobile homes and weaker constructed homes including partial

roof removal. Some homes could see damage to room shingles and siding. Light weight items should be secured as these could become projectiles

causing further damage. Local power outages are also possible along with widespread tree damage. The tropical force winds should slowly

decrease Saturday afternoon as Ike moves away from the area into northeast Texas.

In addition to the damaging winds and heavy rains, isolated tornadoes are a possibility primarily in the eastern portions of South Central

Texas on Saturday.
