I must get five wrong # phone calls a day on my cell. If someone leaves a message on my voicemail thinking I'm someone else, am I morally obligated to return their phone call and tell them?

Don't forget to leave your name and address.

No. But if the same number shows up again and again, maybe you want to let them know that it's the wrong number just so they don't bother you again.

Is it the same person who keeps calling, or different people asking for the same person? It might put an end to the calls if you did call back and set them
straight.

It would be the nice thing to do, especially if the message sounds relatively important.

If someone is about to be born or about to die...call back.
If someone keeps dialing your number by mistake...call back. If someone on the other line sounds cute and easy...call back. Just about everything else...don't sweat it. |

No, I probably would not. I haven't gotten any wrong numbers on my cell yet.
I did get an unintelligible voice mail once. |

UPS left a message on my cell last week and said they were delivering a package that had to be signed for. They would be there sometime between 8am and 7pm.
I wasn't expecting a package. No one ever showed up. I guess it was a wrong number. |

Well, they were either drunk or stoned out of their mind.

i usually don't depending on the voicemail. the same goes with my work number. in the past when i did get a voicemail on my cell i called back to let them
know they had the wrong number and i didn't want the person they were trying to reach miss her interview. LOL. then another time at work i returned some
moving company's call to let them know there was no john doe there and i didn't want john doe's stuff to get sent back or abandoned or delivered to
the wrong place or what have you.
other times (drunk calls- night of and the next day) i let them leave message after message to see if it gets any good. ;-) |

I once got a message from someone who was trying to call his brother to tell him their father died. That thing was hilarious with the guy begging his brother
to come back home to his family and stuff.

I don't usually, but a couple months ago I had some guy who kept calling and leaving voicemails for someone named Jerry. Asking Jerry to call him back, asking Jerry to meet him. I finally called and told him he had the wrong number because 1) he was bugging the shit out of me and 2) GOD FORBID HE SHOULD NEVER GET TO HOOK UP WITH GODDAMN JERRY.

It is immoral to listen to messages that are not for you. I hit delete as soon as they ask for someone who doesn't live here. |

Jerry, can you meet me after work? |
