Shirley MacLaine as Coco Chanel, in the over-hyped, constantly promoted Lifetime 3 hour movie. I was actually looking forward to this movie, but holy crap, it played like a bad Danielle Steel movie with the voices all sounding as if they had been dubbed. Shirley's role wasn't much more than a cameo, lacking a French accent like the younger woman who played young Coco. The younger Coco was pretty good, I thought. That's 3 hours of my life I'll never get back.

I agree that Shirley MacLaine was bearly in it. (She's looking pretty rickety. I've always been a fan. She's nutz! But a fun nut to watch.) Funny how they turn (or attempt to turn) the story of this amazing style icon into a pseudo epic romance. I have a feeling it wasn't anything like that. Still, I enjoyed it.

I tried to watch some of it with my mother, but seeing the way the overdub was on the dialogue made my stomach turn. I couldn't watch it or take it seriously. So the next day I put it on before I went to sleep and I watched the bulk of it, but it just sucked ass, hard. My mother thought it was epic and outstanding, she fell in love with the story line. I thought the story was shit. I wanted more about the fashion world stuff, not her romantic situations with tiny bits of fashion. Lame. I also was pissed that she didn't go back for her sister. What a joke.

The young Coco wqas really subtle - soft yet strong. Shirley Maclaine played her like she was Mae West. Ridiculous.

I agree, Lifetime's handling of the story was shite. It just felt like they gave so much time to the romance part and just hurried through the success part. Maybe that's what their target audience wants from them, but the great Ms. Chanel must still be spinning in her grave. Yeah, and what did happen to her accent after she became Shirley MacLaine??
