He's outshown by the strategist characters from the other two kingdoms I think, he's just nothing special. He's not BAD either, he just doesn't have anything that makes him stick out in my mind. #31 Huang Gai Kingdom: Wu This is a funny one, because I actually like Huang Gai's design and character and even playing as him a lot. It's just the one thing that makes his character unique, his charge attack bombs, are so useless. They do NO damage and are the only attack that can harm your allies [and it always seems like they do more damage to your guys than the enemy]. I actually enjoy playing as him because his regular attacks give you this awesome feeling of RIPPING through your opposition, I just don't feel right ranking him higher with those damn bombs. #30 Yue Ying Kingdom: Shu She's yet another example of a female character being included in the series to add another female character, but sadly little effort was made to make her unique. She's basically a clone of a male character [Guan Yu] and it's a little upsetting. She's actually reasonable to play with, but nothing stands out. #29 Yuan Shao Kingdom: Other He's got a very annoying gimmick [considering himself a member of the "elite"] and he's not outstanding in any area. I'm enjoying this feud. #28 Sun Jian Kingdom: Wu The boring ruler characters. The rulers of the three kingdoms are so boring, but Sun Jian is defo the least interesting of the three. Like the other two, he uses a sword and has boring attacks, but at least Cao Cao and Liu Bei have unique personalities and Cao Cao has magic attack, Sun Jian is just blew. #27 Lu Xun Kingdom: Wu I really have very little to say about Lu Xun. I think he may be Zhou Yu's boy lover, which may interest some, but he has nothing terribly bad nor terribly awesome enough for me to say anything else special... #26 Kingdom: Wei [I never noticed how all my favorites were Wu until now, haven't I listed only one Wu-er?] Cao Cao is another boring ruler character. He has the magic attacks which make him a little more fun and even more importantly the evil villain personality that adds a bit of flavor. I bet most players would rank Cao Cao above the Wu ruler Liu Bei, but I like Liu Bei so... I don't. #25 Zhu Rong Kingdom: "Other" Zhu Rong is a wonderfully unique character who I actually like a lot, especially since she makes playing the Nanman campaign tolerable [because you don't have to play as Meng Hou]. But her terrible voice actor gets her bumped bellow some people who I actually enjoy playing as way way less. #23 Xiahou Yuan Kingdom: Wei Honestly, he should be lower. But I like his bow charge attack, and he's a bit like Huang Gai only arrow attack instead of the damn bombs. But Huang Gai is has a cooler design and is only as low as he is because of the bombs... He's actually incredibly similar in play-style to the already listed female Wu member. He's just yet another pole-arm using Wu member and has nothing that makes him interesting. #22 Lu Meng Kingdom: Wu He's a slightly cooler looking Jiang Wei, and just like Jiang he debuted in this edition of Dynasty Warriors, and also like him was apparently removed in Dynasty Warriors 6. But really, just see Jiang's entry. #21 Liu Bei Kingdom: Shu The ruler of Wu is my favorite because I like his character the most. He has the most boring looking design but that's actually part of his "leader of the people" character that I enjoy so much. I remember I was doing this one campaign in DW4: Empires [a special sort of expansion that allows you to conquer China in your own way] and I had been allies with Liu Bei for a really long time, but then the time came when I had to finally wipe him off the map. The folks at Koei decided to make the music for Liu Bei's home battlefield REALLY dramatic and so I actually remember feeling like crying. It's weird because I NEVER cry at like anything, so feeling that sad at a Dynasty Warriors battle makes me feel really stupid, but also testaments to the strength of Liu Bei's character. However, he has a boring play-style just like the other rulers and so I can't justify ranking him higher. #20 Xu Huang Kingdom: Wei He's kind of a badass, he also wears a turban which adds some flavor to him that noone else has. He's pretty fun to play as, though a bit slow. I more just like the turban than anything XD #19 Cao Ren Kingdom: Wei On pure playability, Cao Ren would fall like 10 slots on the list. However, he has the most unique design in the game [especially his weapon] and a unique personality too. He's "peaceful warrior" shtick is actually fun unlike a lot of other schticks in the game, so since he's cool in those ways, he gets ranked higher #18 Dian Wei Kingdom: Wei Wow, I think I ranked him too high. I moderately like him, but I can't think of anything to say that justifies him being this high on the list... Posts: 2433 (09/30/08 5:31 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	O, and no kidding about the Liu Bei battle, it was so weird because I was like "WTF, why am I so emotional right now?" #17 Zhang Liao Kingdom: Wei I'm not really sure why I like him so much. I kind of like his personality, it's a little bit unique. I also always found it kinda cool-weird that he wears a pirate hat. He's moderately fun to play, but his uniqueness gets him boosted a couple notches. #16 Huang Zhong Kingdom: Shu And anyone who knew there was an old guy in this game just gasped in awe. Seriously? Madhack just ranked the old dude below the top 5? Huang Zhong is GREAT to play as, has a non-annoying voice actor and a unique personality, but he's outclassed by some of the people above him is all. I love his bow charge attack, one downside though is that at the end of his Musou attack they have him stumble a bit because he's... old, but I tolerate it. #15 Sun Shang Xiang Kingdom: Wu Here she is, the last female on the list and the only female character I will actually choose to play as. Sun Shang is actually very very fun to play as, has a unique playstyle, and a fun personality. She's actually really awesome, there's just better. #14 Zhou Tai Kingdom: Wu Look at him, he's a godamn badass! What else is there to say! Besides that though he's also very fun to play as. #13 Gan Ning Kingdom: Wu Hmmm... I actually regret this ranking. I didn't entirely think this through. While he is pretty fun to play as, he has the downside of having terrible voice acting. I like his design though, so I guess it's OK he's here. #12 Zhao Yun Kingdom: Shu If I were to base this purely on design then Zhao would be number 42, but I have to be honest, Zhao Yun is one of the most fun to play as in the game. His attacks have AMAZING reach, like more than most polearm characters, which is awesome. However, he misses top 10 purely because I hate the "token prettyboy who's been around since the beginning" that all games have and they all look exactly alike. I agree with your note about Sun Shang actually Maldoror: I'm glad old archer guy is so well liked! But yes, Sun Shang has a terrible voice actor, but DW is kind of legendary for it's terrible voice actors. Spn: Yeah, I knew you'd want to bang Zhao Yun. About the dearth of female characters, this game isn't based on the entirety of Chinese History, it's based on a very old novel that tells a highly fictionalized story of a legendary period of Chineese history, the Three Kingdoms period. There is a dearth of female characters in the book, so that translates into the games. Rankings continue in a moment

I also think he just has a badass design, and a good Musou attack #10 Zhuge Liang Lingdom: Shu I used to hate the strategist characters, but then I actually played as Zhuge Liang some and discovered that it's freaking awesome.
