Keep on posting Craig. Even though I hear an imaginary sigh of exasperation before any reply to your posts, I think the devil's advocate position ( literally this time :) keeps us all on our toes. |

Lots of UTRs at the start and nothing but CPs and MORs toward the end. I haven't been doing edgic for too long, but I have to say the one thing I've learned here that seems to always hold true is that an INV is the kiss of death.

Rob, I'm mad at you for calling Jen a bitch! (j/k I don't care.) Still, she is my favorite BB contestant ever.

craig wrote: The scene you refer to was on Insider, not on the show and thus not part of the editing we analyze, and what do we see the following episode regarding Matty? While he's glad he stuck by his word to Ace, he resolves not to put himself in that position again. He joins the "clean slate" scene, crediting the others with being Survivors, and we haven't seen him complain about Crystal since. The key line may be Crystal imploring Matty "not to let anyone get in his head". (That was the underlying message of the Insider scene as well by the way.) The editing effect is that Matty let Ace get in his head, but with Ace removed, the Fangs can work together again. I can only speculate as to why the Insider scene was cut from the show, but my educated guess would be that it wasn't necessary to establish the strain between Crystal and Matty and that it painted both of them in a harsher light than the edit team wanted them to have. You seem to have a real hard time separating your perception of reality from the edit that is shown to us. Perhaps you are dead right about Crystal as a person (that she's a hypocrite who won't acknowledge her own flaws), but that isn't what is being shown to us. What we've been shown is a passionate competitor who yet can't perform up to her expectations, a steadfast ally to those she's bonded with who doesn't hesitate to deceive those outside of her circle, someone who will stand up for herself and speak her mind but who can alienate others in the process, and yes, someone who can be a bit surly when she's down. Crystal explained her $+++@ to the audience and anticipated Kelly's badmouthing. Thus, Crystal is presented as the one who is right - Kelly is just acting as Crystal predicted. Matty's badmouthing of Crystal was done in the context of the episode in which he voted for her in conjunction with Ace, but we got the alternate viewpoint from Ken supporting her. With Ace portrayed as a bad influence, at best that is a wash. I'm not saying that those didn't reflect negatively on Crystal, but those weren't this last episode either. I believe I gave Crystal N tone in at least one of those episodes, and at best I gave her M tone in the other. But she wasn't OTT in either episode because the editing was not clear cut that she was someone to be rooted against, especially not against the likes of Kelly and Ace. As for Randy, he was being gratuitously negative toward Crystal without proximate cause. Perhaps he does have cause to dislike Crystal in reality, but he doesn't have cause to throw insults out of nowhere. |

craig wrote: the difference here is that... The descriptions of Corinne showed that others KNEW who was being talked about and THEY AGREED. Where Randy had to EXPLAIN WHO HE was talking about. Huge Difference in both reality AND editing intent. If the editors wanted the same intent... there would have been an adjustment to the Randy context, showing that people knew who he was talking about...(ie, the scene with Charlie would have been removed) |

Re: Changing the Close Calls Structure.
Nice idea, but for the infrequent times that we would legitimately have a 3-way close call... it is not really worth my time to either restructure the spreadsheet to adjust for that or for me to scrutinize every single close call for the math. I think that the current structure is fine... I don't feel like the CC's are broken, so i don't particularly feel the need to fix it. Further...in a case of a 3 way.... i feel it is more important to evaluate it ALL, simply because the edit is coming across MORE complexly... therefore there is more disparate viewpoints. Sorry if that's a bit to Corinne-like (OTT or bitchy or dismissive) but time has been extremely valuable for me lately, and i'm a bit sensitive about it. :) thanks. |

cl:I agree. All three have some interesting twists. Sugar should be ruled out because of her fluff ep1.
Sugar confessional, (not until after the start of the second segment): "There's wild animals..." (giggle, snorf, snort!), "This is really Africa!" (mugs at the camera and stiffles another snort and giggles). The long shot as I see it, is that we are set up to believe that Sugar is another cute dingy ditz. But that we get to be surprised when she finds the idol and tells us how everyone thinks she's stupid, but that she's not. There are two Sugars: the fluff pushover one everyone sees in camp and the private one that only we are allowed to see. This makes editing sense and would explain how she could win when she's had such a weak opening episode. It might seem like a stretch, but not when compared with the huge negative edit given to the entire Fang tribe up to Marcus' boot. It would also explain the bragging by Kenny that he is the big manipulator who succeeds at lying. We have had Sugar tell us that she doesn't trust Kenny and we saw how it could play out with Corinne's smug confidence that Sugar is a sucker. Kenny thinks he's pulled one over on Sugar. But, we know she knows and has never really trusted him. Which brings us to the person who tipped off Sugar, Matty: I'll give winner thoughts about Matty in another post. |

Now I'm no master of edgic or anything, but isn't Crystal's edit similar to Jenna's in the Amazon? Negative half-the time, some over the top
moments, some under the radar with a lot of second-person visibility? (Does Crystal have a lot of SPV?) I think the editors are tinkering with this season a
bit with the Marcus boot and then with like the music during Charlie's boot... I just don't think Crystal can be counted out yet, and should be
considered a more likely winner (although extreme) than anyone with an INV episode.

Phoenix1269 wrote:Phoenix, sorry if I gave the wrong impression but the only reason I suggested a change was to eliminate work for you not increase it. To eliminate, for example, close calls such as last episode where close calls included Bob (MOR 50%, OTT 33.3%) and Corinne (MOR 50%, OTT 27.8%). Those "close" calls aren't really close and shouldn't even be brought up. Sorry to add to your already heavy burden. Great job! |

Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, Kenny in the opening. Kenny (along with Crystal) engineered the blindsides. Kenny brought in Susie. I think Kenny either wins or
goes home tonight.

Well, that was either extremely obvious or extremely misleading about Ken.
ETA: It's funny how the recaps are no longer recaps but Jeff telling you exactly what you're supposed to think about what's going on. ETA: Like with Parvati getting credit for Ozzy's boot instead of Cirie, they credited Ken for pulling Susie over to his alliance when we were clearly shown Crystal doing that in Episode 8.

Weird. That recap reminded me of all those Ozzy-centric recaps from the Cooks & Micronesia. It's like, "Here's Kenny! Here's his game!
Here's his confessionals! Here's him again doing something he didn't really do but we'll give him the credit for it! Kenny Kenny Kenny! Oh yeah
and his friend Crystal and those HII people. AND KENNY!"
ETA: Corinne winner quote?!

In post boot interviews Charlie has said that Sugar's edit is completely inaccurate and that she's a huge pain in the ass.
