almost every season this thread (actually every season) dissolves into cheerleading and it does no good. You can't change the outcome. Better suited to do the detective work and figure out what the story is and what we're supposed to be sold.

I think the problem we continue to see is arguements over tone, when in all honesty, tone isn't that important, but what is important about tone is whether it's good tone or bad tone. You've probably seen many posts about good negatives, bad negatives, etc.

My personal TONE RATING RESOLUTION: (meaning you don't have to agree)

Instead of tone can't we just somehow show whether the way the editor gave them done was either meant to be good or bad for their winner chances? One thing that we continue to see is the manipulation of tone in the merger against the winner. We saw it with Parvati and Todd the last two seasons, making people think "hell they are way too negative in the merger, they're telling us how they lose in the finals". A lot of people fell for it (including me on Todd). But all their negatives were good negatives because they editors were trying to trick us. They weren't mean negatives, they weren't negatives from lots of negative SPV. And with positives, like with Yul and Earl recently, their Ps were that of a leader, someone whose strategy we're impressed and intended to root for. Those were good Ps! They weren't like Amanda's Ps last season where they basically kept saying "Amanda is so likeable she's going to win that jury vote! Amanda's a sudden underdog!" or Erik's Ps where he's so likeable but the intent is he's naive (which was his tragic flaw) and we knew he couldn't win because of the types of Ps he was getting. Then there are those bad Ns like with Natalie last season, Judd and Shane, and Chet... need I go on? We just knew with the types on Ns they got that they had no shot. Their tones tried to tell us that this is how they are in real life; mean people. Not like good Ns, which may be devious but we aren't suppose to loathe the person they are, unless it's Richard, but we were still impressed with him, so his Ns were also good.

I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I think it would save a lot of fighting. If they got tone in an episode, state whether it was a good tone or a bad tone for their winners chances. The fighting over tone now is, much like cl said, over whether we like them or not, and we spend so much time on that (especially over people who are completely out of winner contention already, which takes us away from actually trying to find the winner). At the end of the day, honestly, if we really liked what we saw, it's not easy to give that person an N and vice versa. It's just human nature. But we can almost always agree whether the tone was good or bad for the character. Of course we'll still have the bimbos who will love someone's tone so much they'll say it was a good tone, but favoritism will never be eliminated. Bias sucks but it's never going to be eliminated (unless we get rid of tone all together, which I think could work but when everyone has the same 4 or 5 ratings only in different order, it's difficult to see patterns).

Anyways, here are some things that have been increasingly constant in the winners since All-Stars (and of course, editing is going to continue to evolve as each season goes on):

The winner will not have 2 UTRs in the first 2 episodes. They'll get something significant.
The winner will have tone in the merger, and it'll be N if it's them overplaying or trying to make us think they have no shot in a jury vote (but they will always have a P in the last few episodes if they are N characters), and vice versa, if they are P characters they will have an N usually in the last few episodes.
The winner will get a 3 or 4 visibility in the first episode. 4 seasons in a row now (if Kenny wins), the winner has had a 4 visibility.
