This is a ridiculous amount of time to spend on a silly TV show, but since Marcus left, I love this season!

Bob MORP3

Bob is obviously making moves, but we get no insight, except that if letting Sugar play a joke on Randy gets him farther in the game, then it's fine by him.

But we never get in his head to learn why he told Sugar in the first place. As Sugar says, maybe he's an evil genius. Good a guess as any at this point.

P for the Safari and chest bump for his family. And for being separated from Corinne and Randy's negative, foolish scenes. And for being somber about his betrayal during TC.

A shared look with Corinne sets us up for next week:




Corinne CPN3

It's a weak N, but the edit made sure we remembered that she "...hate[s] all of them!", even wonderful Bob, and is targeting "that bitch", Susie.
Corinne continues to see Sugar as too dumb to worry about.

Her role is spectator to Randy's crash. She shows awareness of her situation in this confessional:

"...I mean /break/ Kenny and Crystal /break/ are taking out my entire alliance. My chances are slim. /break/ You know, most likely /break/ me, Bob, and Randy /break/ we're gonna go home. We don't know in what order, but we're gonna go home."

And she gets a winner tease with this insight:
"I'm not going to spend a dime in this auction, unless it is something that is going to help me in this game...Nothing tastes better than $500, except a million!"

Her TC answer about Randy's f 'ing comment to Susie, illustrates her sideline role and staying out of the way of the action.

She's cornered like Randy, but she's being more thoughtful than he is. She's taking the advice she gave him to lay low and tries to go with the plan to find a way to get rid of Susie. Negative, but thoughtful and some insight. CPN.

Crystal OTT2

Her TC vote behavior moved her (again) from UTR to OTT.


Kenny UTR2

A cooling off episode right where the winner should have one.

He gets an confessional in which he shows he understands Bob's situation and praise for his IC win in camp.

I see the lack of comment on his auction decisions as a good thing for Kenny. If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all.


Matty MOR3


Flat, flat, flat. Zero complexity from Matty.
He gets an earful from Corinne and Randy that he's being set up by Kenny, Crystal, and Susie and we don't get his thoughts.
He tells the Fang group to target Bob, instead of Randy, and we get Sugar's thoughts on it, not Matty's.

He's used to highlight Randy's failures and to point out how right it is that Randy's being targeted:

"...It's a no-brainer that Randy has to go home now. And he's goin' out with a bang!"

He's also used to compliment Sugar's moves, and to highlight Randy's pettiness:

Matty, "...And Sugar, I have to say, that was the most righteous gift I've ever been given."
Randy, "What gift, Matty? You gotta be kiddin' me?! Weren't you watchin'? That was my cookie! Weren't you watchin'?!
Matty, "Oh."

Matty, "You've got to drop the attitude, Randy! You've gotta be cool!"
Randy, "I'm not gonna try to talk to 'um. Any of 'um."

This doesn't need much explaining. But, I disagree with any interpretation of Randy's edit as getting sympathy for his set-up by Sugar.

He and Corinne hated "all of 'um!" and targeted Susie for "personal" reasons of vengeance.
Crystal, in a pretty garbled way, tells us that whether he's been acting this way because it's who he is or for strategic reasons, it's been terrible either way.
Matty tells us that Randy's crossed the line and needs to go out with a bang.

At the vote we see all but Bob and Corinne laughing at the outrageous stunt pulled on Randy:





Sugar OTTM4

Too much in her edit to be MOR, but she lacks a level of reflection that would give her CP. So OTT it is.

As you know, I disagree that Sugar's story this ep was negative. Randy howled like an outraged bully, who sees the walls closing in, but the decision to vote for Randy was made independent of the HII joke.

Her defeat of Randy is triumphant. But, the straight ahead OTT action on her part is where her negativity comes in. I don't know how to divide it up in all her scenes. There's a lot of ambiguity to how to judge her actions. But the glee at Randy's defeat and the laughter at Bob is a definite warning sign that her edit has trouble.

Then again, those witches stirred the pot and the winner told Eric that he was the stupidest Survivor player ever. ;)




Susie UTRP2

I gave her a neutral tone in my vote, but I would give her a P if I could.

She would have been Neutral without Corinne and Randy's attacks. But, we had subtle reminders, when Corinne and Randy would trash her, that she is a hard, uncomplaining worker. Her quiet dignity was a P counterpoint to their attacks on her. It was understated, but it was there.
