I'm with you, MCS. At least a few of those ratings make absolutely no sense.

Apparently Crystal gets OTTN for being loud? There seems a consensus that she didn't do much this episode so this has to be based primarily upon her voting comment. What was that comment again? Paraphrased: "You have made my life hell from the beginning. Go home. Goodbye." Why exactly is this negative? She isn't saying anything about Randy as a person (as Sugar did) - all she's doing is stating what has been shown to be true, that Randy has had it out for her and she is sending him home. Yes, she said it loudly so he would hear it. So what? Randy knew he was getting her vote so it isn't like it came as a shock to him. It was funny, which is why everyone started cracking up about it, including the jury. It wasn't negative - I strongly feel people are giving her OTTN's just because they personally do not like her or have predecided that's the edit she's intended for. I maintain those people haven't been paying attention.

And apparently Corinne gets a CP for indicating she might get voted off soon? Where exactly is the complexity in this edit? She narrates her position, narrates her hope to win immunity, and supports Randy in his hatred of everybody else. Where is there an internal struggle? Where is there a choice that she's explaining? What insight do we get from her? None of that is present. Are people still thinking any discussion of strategy makes a person CP? It does not. She may not be OTT this episode, but she's really just MOR. And I don't know how Crystal can be negative for being loud, but Corinne isn't negative for "I hate these people." She's not being portrayed as an underdog - she's being portrayed as a nasty person still angling for a way to beat the protagonists. It is like in a movie where the villain's plot to take over the world fails so he instead focuses on trying to gain revenge on the hero. At that point, they are the "underdog" so to speak, but they sure aren't portrayed as one.

As for Sugar, the intention of the editors is what matters, not necessarily what we actually feel. I agree with everyone who says that what Sugar did was petty and cruel, even if it was to Randy. But that wasn't the intent of the edit. The audience was meant to laugh along at Randy and Corinne, and for the most part, they did. (Some of us just felt a bit bad about it.) I don't feel Sugar was positive, but there was nothing to particularly present Sugar as negative either. An intended OTTN edit is not subtle so while I have trouble pinpointing Sugar's edit this episode, I have little trouble ruling out OTTN. She's not portrayed as a negative force - at worst she's being portrayed as a trickster.

Cassidy, if we don't argue over different points of view, what is the point of this forum? We can each do Edgic on our own, and basically we do. All this forum is for is for sharing those viewpoints and discussing them, and we will not always agree. I believe we have a lot of people, particularly those new here, who have no idea what actually constitutes an OTT or CP edit, and part of that is because we haven't aggressively corrected people who've adjusted the definitions over time.

Blake, I agree that edits of the same ranking aren't necessarily the same and that relativism shouldn't be used to grade players on a scale. That said, the portrayed conflicts do have editing purpose, and while you certainly can have negative characters cut each other down and still be negative, that doesn't mean that any negative thoughts directed at a negative character are intended to be negative in the context of the edit. In other words, correct negative assessment doesn't make an otherwise negative player not negative, but correct negative assessment also doesn't make an otherwise not negative player negative either.
