I get them in clusters due to a muscle in my neck that tightens and will not relax. I can seriously have migraines for a week straight. Massage therapy does twiddly-twat and I've heard that Botox may work. My insurance will only cover it if I get a note from a neurologist. The only thing is, my doctor just keeps throwing propaganda published by the pharmaceutical companies and pushing more drugs on me. I've got an appt with my doc first thing tomorrow and I'm going to insist he send me to a neurologist. Seriously, since Sept 1st I've had 9 fucking migraines. I'm ready to kill someone. So, who here gets them, and what do you do to get relief? Anyone on the botox treatment? Does it work?

Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Not sure if it's a migraine, but since August I've been getting these nasal headaches on the left side of my face. Eyeball down to the teeth. Tylenol eventually helps, but at one point I'd have to wake up to take Tylenol to get rid of the excruciating pain. EXCRUCIATING! Now if I feel anything coming on, I pop Tylenol just to head it off because it takes to long to kick in when the pain is EXCRUCIATING!

I have the classic migrane symptom where I have vision issues (flickering lights in a widening circle around my peripheral vision) for about 20 minutes followed by a sudden, crushing headache that makes me nauseous and sensitive to light and sound. Sleep is the only remedy. I know when that vision shit starts that I have about a half hour to take pre-emptive drugs and get myself home and into bed. I had them a lot when I was in my early teens and then again when I was in my 20's. Not so much anymore - maybe once every 6 months. (I have other types of headaches quite frequently - sinus, tension, etc. - but not true migranes.) I've had the CT scans, the EEGs, all that shit. Nothing to indicate it's anything but a classic migrane. Was on drugs for it when I had them frequently but now I just pop Advil like it's going out of style. Hope you get some relief, Ogakor.

Posts: 4783 (09/25/08 08:30 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts	A good friend of mine works at a nutritional supplement/health food store, and she swears by vitamin B supplements for migraines. Specifically, B2, which is also called riboflavin. It works as a preventative measure rather than a treatment to relieve the symptoms, so you would take it every day to keep from getting migraines rather than waiting till you get one and then taking it to try and make the headache go away. B2 is also water soluble, so it's not the kind of thing that's going to hurt you if you take more than you need, you'll just pee it away. I don't get migraines, but I know how miserable they can make people, so I hope this info is helpful. Now I've done my good deed for the day and can act like an ass for the rest of it. :c p

It has literally been life changing for me to not have to worry about if I'm going to get a migraine. You might try that. I know some people have said it doesn't work for them, but it's worth a try.

I also haven't tried acupuncture - I'm dubious, but i will go that route if I have to. Seahawk, it's not that I'm bound and determined to get botox, I'm just at the point where I'm desperate to treat the reason and not the migraine. I take Maxalt - which is the wafer, because I tend to puke up any other kind of med, and I also take over the counter Robax to relax the muscle. Prescription muscle relaxants knock me out. The idea of pumping poison into a muscle doesn't sound that appealing, but when I'm at the point where I'm about to rip that frigging muscle out with my bare hands, I figure it's worth a try. Cleo, they are a motherfucker, aren't they? I get the auras and the light sensitivity, and the nausia... the whole shebang.

About 4 years ago I went on Topamax as a prophylactic (it was an anti-siezure drug noticed to have prophylactic migraine AND appetite cutting qualities. and is now prescribed for both, migrainers and fatties). It took a couple of months, but me H/A have been reduced from about 4-5 a week to about 1 a week, and I'm NEVER hungry as a bonus. Sometimes I have to MAKE myself eat. NO weird side effects, insurance loves paying for it, everyone I know with migraines is on it. TRY IT. edit: Tried the botox, had 91 shots in the face and neck, looked GREAT, had the same amount of H/A.
