Duke/Lauren had the opportunity to get cash at the roadblock (and had they found the coal detour, would've beaten T/T).... Jim/Marsha sucked had Marshall's shitty luck with the chocolates to capitalize on (not to mention, wasn't it their own fault that they put so much stock on a flight with one seat open in standby?)

I agree with the other eliminations being based on some genuine incompetence, but Duke/Lauren and Jim/Marsha actually ran pretty good legs:

D/L's cash issue was moot by the flower-selling, since the cash caused their inability to get a cab to the task, putting them quite a bit behind - given Duke managed to finish it quickly enough to get bunched up with all but 3 (?) other teams, if they'd driven to the task, they might have been able to get onto an earlier bus. And at the village, Duke/Lauren had just as much chance of finding the Detour location as the other group of teams, who were equally lost, it was just bad luck that TylerJames et al stumbled across a local who knew where it was - and if the Detour they reached was easier, they could have survived. And if Tom/Terry were given the original penalty of 30 minutes + time gained, instead of just 30 minutes, D/L would have survived.

Jim/Marsha were screwed by a ticketing agent (and trusting Brandon/Nicole) - they tried to get tickets on the early flight (with one ticket) and the 10:30 flight as well. Then they were out of seats, but were on the standby list before Kami/Karli, who somehow got tickets before them. Also, their 11:30 flight was delayed half an hour and they only finished supposedly 20-25 minutes behind Marshall/Lance, so without the delay, they'd have still been around.

Dennis/Andrew kinda belong on this list too, what with Heather/Eve supposedly booking up all the flights in a move that's banned nowadays but I don't really have all the facts and they were a fairly weak team anyway.

Though I agree that Dallas fucked up hard. Why he needed to take the passports along with money, I don't know.

Toni being the typical mother and looking after the fannypack all the time, unlike the other teams passing it around, was their downfall. If Dallas was used to carrying it, I can't believe he'd lose it (then again, he doesn't know where New Zealand is...)

(if I'm remembering correctly, while the other teams took buses straight there, T/T got off the bus at some point and then sought out a motorbike - they still remained in second place).

The Chos were shown walking along and refusing a motorcycle ride, so I'd assume all teams who took the bus had to walk some distance before the village - and not having to walk saves energy and gives a time advantage.

Gary/Dave and Chris/Alex were forbidden to go above the speed-limit because of safety reasons - and they got a 42 minute penalty (30 minutes + 12 minutes gained). So the safety excuse doesn't make sense either. I don't know how much time they did gained but they definitely did gain some, and since Duke/Lauren were only a few minutes behind, it was a real bullshit elimination.
