17. Stephenie and Angie

While I was going over my list yesterday, I realized that I could not remember a single thing that Angie and Steph did together. As far as I can recall, they never even brought up the fact that they were working together, so I can't let them make it any further. With that said, Angie was easily my favorite from Palau. She was the definition of a true underdog, and her leaving so early is one of the many reasons why Palau is my least favorite season of all time. Maybe I'll rewatch it sometime and realize that there's no way in hell it is worse than Cook Islands and Fiji, but Palau was the first season to have a bloated mactor cast filled with ignored castaways and crappy twists.

Stephenie was right up there with Angie. My third or fourth favorite from Palau behind the great James Miller and maybe Bobby Jon. How about we call her tied for third?

Even though the two of them were never shown strategizing on camera (again, as far as I can remember), it was obvious from their actions that they had something going on, and damnit, I wished it worked out better than it did. On day 3, the day when Wanda and Jonathan first wanted to kill the producers, tribes were formed, and Ulong lost the first challenge pretty badly. Angie, the last Ulong picked, was the obvious boot, but Steph led a coup against Jolanda. In a 5-3 vote, Angie was spared. The next three episodes consisted of much drama and strategy. Two people quit, and another was hated by the entire tribe. Episode 5 was supposed to be the same thing as Ibreham completely sucked during the swimming portion of the reward challenge during the double boot episode. As luck would have it, a twist allowed Koror to save a person from Ulong at tribal council. The obvious boot was saved, and the rest of the tribe (the four best castmates of the season) all went into panic mode. Stephenie and Angie stuck together by voting against Bobby Jon while James and Bobby Jon stuck together by voting for Angie. Stephenie sadly had to turn her back on Angie in the revote because Ibe was obviously going to vote for Angie over Bobby Jon. If only the two of them voted for James with Ibreham...If only...Not that I wanted James to leave either, but I didn't want Angie leaving because of the bullshit twist. Ibreham just had to get saved. Still, I was happy that Stephenie and Angie stuck together until the bitter clusterfuck end of Ulong.





















16. Zhan Hu 5 (Frosti, Peih-Gee, Erik, Jaime, Sherea)

As I said before, Zhan Hu > Fei Long. Chicken, Ashley, and Dave were three awesome early boots compared to..Aaron and Leslie? I guess that's not too much competition although I liked Leslie (especially when she interacted with Zhan Hu), but still. Anyways, this write up isn't about them. It's about the other five members of the tribe.

From the get go, it seemed like the five were at least somewhat together. Zhan Hu's first tribal council was a 5-2-1 vote, and surprise surprise, these five voted together for Chicken. Sherea was obviously on the outs of the group, and she would have been the next to go had there not been a swap. I'm not 100% sure if she was actually in the alliance because of Erik's quote about getting rid of both Dave and her, but she is included in this ranking.

Peih-Gee was an early target for being an annoying bitch during the first three days, but her target wore off fairly quickly as Dave and Ashley let each other know how they felt. The remaining members of the tribe had it easy until the merge. Not without strategizing, though, (supposedly Jaime had individual alliances with every member of the tribe? ). While I was a huge fan of Jean Robert, Amanda, and Courtney (I liked James and Todd, too, damn China had a good cast, would have been a great season without the idol dominating air time/the final three), Zhan Hu was without a doubt the more likable and better to watch tribe in my eyes. Sherea's fight with Dave about seashells or something was classic, and Erik and Jaime's showmance was one of the few I was able to not only tolerate but like. Before the swap in episode 5, Zhan Hu had the hilarious scene of them thinking they were gaining two members with no consequences like a bunch of morons.

Once the swap hit, this alliance stepped it up even more. James and Aaron joined the tribe, and Peih-Gee and Jaime took a page from Boron's book and threw a challenge. I remember being really frusterated with the Survivors Strike Back Blog when freaking Ethan complained about them throwing the challenge. The only problem with throwing a challenge to save Sherea and Frosti was how obvious they made it. After Aaron worked his ass off to swim out and retrieve the puzzle pieces, they couldn't stop laughing. "I'm good at Sudoku!" is probably the most memorable quote from China besides Amanda being ready to make the whole freakin' pie. Needless to say, Erik was pissed off, but he stuck it out with the girls and sent Aaron home. Jaime was cocky enough to admit they threw the challenge in front of their new tribe mates at tribal council.

The very next challenge was almost as good as the previous one they threw. Jaime and Peih Gee were trying to make eye contact with Frosti and Sherea, yet neither of them would look that way. Peih Gee went as far as trying to talk to Sherea during the challenge. She told her they threw it to save them, yet Sherea simply untied her puzzle pieces and ran off. This, along with Erik and Jaime stumbling on a fake HII, luckily, made them not throw another challenge. This kept the three of them in the game due to James's double set of HIIs that he had.

Everyone knows what happens afterward. The editors completely threw Jaime under the bus when she had already showed herself to be a competent player and not some dumb blond, yet they made it seem like she really thought she had found a HII. Frosti and James stayed with Fei Long, and they were toast. Good thing it wasn't a true Pagonging. I still don't really understand why Frosti left before Erik anyways. Not that I'm complaining. Erik ended up surprising me by being really likable. Probst had no reason to stop his alpha male loving persona just to bash Erik. Peih-Gee was awesome. Sherea was hilarious. Frosti was the only semi boring member of Zhan Hu, but his profession made him somewhat interesting. Jaime was my favorite of the group, and I was at least happy she could stay on the jury. That's the only thing I will ever thank the final three twist for doing.

Man, this nostalgia is making me wish they were higher because Zhan Hu was truely awesome. Unfortunately, Frosti didn't join back with them at the merge, and they had no chance to do much from there. Well, they did, but Denise happened to be mentally retarded.
