Duke may not have had the horses the past few years (particularly in the middle. what's with that?), but there's nothing more beautiful than a game at Cameron. The intensity is unreal no matter the opponent or time of year, and the students are clever and, yes, classy.

Conversely, the atmosphere at the Smith Center has to be embarrassing to the baby blue faithful. "Wine-and-cheese crowd" (Sam Cassell circa 1991) is spot the fuck on. Sure, they have the male cheerleaders banging on their stupid megaphones, and the PA system pipes in the crowd noise at appropriate times (true story), but the place is essentially dead for a college basketball game. It's amazing. The only thing I can liken it to is Atlanta during the Braves' heyday when you could go up to the window and buy a World Series ticket game day. I can't figure the lack of excitement.

As for the atmosphere at the Smith Center, you clearly haven't watched a single ACC contest played in that arena since the Matt Doherty years (which were admittedly terrible), so perhaps you should shut the fuck up and continue watching whatever pathetic conference coverage your tinfoil-covered rabbit ears can decipher.

Watch just about any college sporting event and observe the Cameron Crazy Copycats. I'd say there are quite a few mongoloids out there that would rate Duke fans #1 in cleverness. Classiness is a bit more subjective, and I suspect there are a few hurt feelings out there, but I've not heard the term 'mongoloid' used in a chant recently.

Now that you ask, I have been to many ACC contests in gyms throughout the conference post-Doherty (more than you have, I'm willing to wager). Admittedly, it's in part a function of the Smith Center layout (alumni money talks louder at UNC than at Duke or Maryland, I suppose), but UNC basketball games are essentially dead (in comparison to most of the other core ACC facilities, of course). Try it sometime. Go to UNC-BC at the Smith Center and NC State-BC at the RBC. You'll see NO CONTEST in terms of crowd intensity.

That was an impressive display of vitriol responding to what was supposed to be a less-than-world-ending comment. I guess I hit a nerve somewhere. Sorries!
